Hi everyone,

Two months ago, I met the cube again, thanks to a cubing friend of mine who gifted me with a YJ Yulong. After trying (and failing) during the early 80's to solve one on my own, I discovered that the advent of YouTube and the marvelous tutorials available online made solving the cube a simple matter. However, solving one efficiently (and quickly!) looks like it will be a perpetual challenge; one that we all share.

I've recently graduated from the beginner's method to the Fridrich method, using intuitive F2L (thanks, RiDo! http://rishidoshi.blogspot.ca/ ). I'm learning 2 look OLL, and plan to gradually expand my PLL beyond H, U and Z perms. I'm currently spending a week on each cross color to try to become color neutral; this has stalled my solve time improvement, but I hope it's an investment in being a more well-rounded cuber. My current average is between 75 and 80 seconds, with three PB solves under one minute. I'd like to see how far I can progress in the next year, and hope to eventually be sub-20... Time (and lots of practice) will tell!

I look forward to being part of this community, and to help others with the same love for the cube to progress in their own journey. I'm happy to discuss anything at all, and have a special interest in Chess, Scrabble, F1, poker and computer programming.

Thanks, everyone! @sneaklyfox, I'm in Calgary, and have lived here most of my life. I see that you're in Ottawa - is there much of a cubing community / competitions near you?

Welcome fellow Canadian!

There are other methods besides CFOP and they might suit you better, my advice is to try them all, or watch solves to base your opinion on.
Your Guide to Picking a SPEEDSOLVING method

Thanks very much for the link to the guide for methods! I've seen a few Roux and ZZ solves on YouTube, and these methods look intriguing. There is real depth in cubing - so much to learn, which makes the journey interesting. I'll certainly take a further look and give each method a fair try.
