My new cubes came in the post the other day, I got a Rubik's Mirror Blocks cube from hobby_japan on ebay and I also got an Eastsheen 2x2x2 and an Eastsheen 5x5x5 free from cubelagoon.

I love the Mirror Blocks cube it's so fun to solve, my best time at the moment is 2:20, I'm getting more used to the shapes of the pieces and the OLL and PLLs. I'm having trouble recognising some of the OLLs, for example I can't tell the difference between headlights and chameleon OLLs. It's a pain to scramble, but overall really good fun, non-cubers really like it too. Anyone else got mirror blocks?

2x2x2 I haven't even tried speedsolving it, but I did it blindfolded and got something like 2 minutes.

5x5x5 I'm slowly getting better, best time is about 5:45 !! still sucky, I know but I've only had it a couple of days. Earlier tonight I dropped it and it just fell to pieces.

Now I've got the task of putting it back together. I really hope it will feel the same as it turned really nice before. I can't believe I've done this, I'm so clumsy.

Anyone else here had the pleasure of putting one of these back together and if so, can you give me some tips to make it easier?

ps. I've assembled an es 4x4x4 before, is the 5x5 easier or harder?

The ES 5^3 is definitely easier to reassemble than the ES 4^3.
Be prepared to get more big pops with it, though.

thanks, I've done it now. It was considerably easier to put back together than the 4x4x4. It doesn't quite feel the same, as I expected it wouldn't. It's a bit more loose and 'catchy' and locks a little more, but it's not bad.

I'd say to clean and lube it a bit now... it's probably gotten a bit dirty from being in pieces on the floor.

Incidentally, you might want to get a V-cube sometime... They don't fall apart when a piece pops out, which Eastsheens do. So if you're solving in competition or something and you get a pop, you can just put the piece back in and keep going. (I've had an Eastsheen 5x5 pop in competition... I actually had to do my last solve at the very end of the round because it took half an hour to reassemble the puzzle.)

luckily when I dropped it, only about 10 pieces actually went on the floor. Unluckily, the cube wasn't solved so I had to fully disassemble it anyway. It doesn't feel like it needs lube at the moment it turns pretty well. And yeah I would like a V-cube at some point, they look really good but I've gotta get better at solving it first, lol.

I've had to put it back together quite a few times. After a while it gets sorta fun xD

Fun? that certainly wasn't fun for me, but it wasn't as bad as I thought.

i love mirror blocks!! mine is fluo pink :D try it bld

Hi Charlie, yeah I wanna try it blindfolded too once I get a bit more used to the shapes. I assume that for a real mirror blocks BLD solve you would get no inspection or memo time, just don the blindfold, pick up and solve?

what are your speedsolve times for it? and what method do you use? surely not petrus....

edit - I'm just going to go ahead and try the blind mirror blocks solve right now. Will post back the time.

ok first ever attempt - 19:43. It must have taken at least 10 minutes to get the cross, i just couldn't find the last piece. I got headlights oll and J perm. The next attempt should be much quicker. You're right, this really is fun !!

You don't have to fully disassemble it. Just check the corner orientation while fixing the pop, and at the end of the solve, you will have to disassemble and reassemble at most two middle edges (which is easy to do) to make your cube solvable again.
