I'll start:

I was at Sub 50-40 at the time, and my parents were like "You know, I think you should move on from cubing.". For a second I actually considered it. We were watching the news at that time. At that exact moment, I don't know if got lucky or something, but there was a headline about a boy breaking the world record for most claps in a minute. Then suddenly my parents were like "At least you aren't wasting your time on something which won't help you with life.".

I think this is a good thread. I quit for awhile many years ago. I was really heavy into cubing in 2005 to 2007. I jumped from the beginner method to Petrus back then. I was solving the beginner method in 40-45s then switched to Petrus, slowed down for awhile and got into the 30s. I never could break 30s back then. Super frustrating. My fastest was 33s with Petrus in 2006 using a sanded Rubik's brand with spray silicone spray from AutoZone 🤣 . There was info out back then, but I just didn't know where to find it regarding getting faster. I was in my early twenties then.

Over the next decade or so I would only casually solve. Then I went through a period from 2016 to 2019 not solving at all. If I even touched a cube I'd solve only using pretty much Petrus EO then only 3 algs to solve the rest of cube. I would use a Niklas or 2 to permute the corners then Sune the heck out of the corners orient them, then a U perm to permute the edges. Not to mention the U perm I was using was terrible, some abomination that started with F2 (no offense if you use that alg by the way). I would call that quitting for a while. No training at all, just kind of messing around on a whim.

I picked it up again about a year ago or so ago in my late thirties and started actually training and progressing. I was introduced to the new wave of cubes with magnets and have been back in love ever since. I switched to CFOP, but have always kept my block building knowledge. I actually enjoy solving more now than ever and stopped worrying so much about my times. Funny, after I stopped worrying about time, I smashed 30s for a PB of 24s. Currently I've had as low as 15s with with a 3 mover on white cross, 2 free pairs, an H OLL, and a PLL Skip (lucky, but hey it counted! 🤣).

I love the cube and I've been frustrated and quit before. But I returned with a renewed affection that I never had before.

When I first learned the cube I never had any intentions to speed solve it just a fun thing that I could do to burn time, and for a few months it was exactly that, until the start of the school year I thought it would be fun to try to time myself once. Looking back I'm sure one day I could have just put my cube down and never touched it again during that period of casual solves.

So ive had this one time a few months ago when i thought about it i took about a 3 month break avoiding it cause it got to me cause i grinded for 5 hours each day and it got boring and furstrating and i decided not to quit because its my longest hobby and for hobbies sometimes u just need breaks

i think the closest i got to quitting was after Philippine Championship 2024. I had practiced long and hard months before the comp, only to get disappointing results. I really contemplated my hard work, but luckily i didn’t give up and started practicing even harder and smarter, which lead up to me destroying the sub-10 barrier and sub-9 barriers.
