So I was lucky enough to get an invite into the beta for Google Plus and there's features that I've noticed are super gosu mega awesome for us cubers.
1. Unlimited Group Video Chat
Ever been in a video chat with a cuber, and been video called by another? You go to add them to the conference, but upon doing so, everybody's video disappears. It's free on Google Plus. No need to pay a monthly subscription for a bunch of crap you don't even want.
2. Circles
This is probably my favorite thing. Ever want to post something cubing related on facebook, but didn't to avoid annoying or ridiculing comments from non-cubers? Whenever you add someone, you add them to a circle, which is just a grouping of friends, just like on facebook. The only difference is your friends cannot see which circle they are in, or where you've placed others. Whenever you go to post anything, you can specify which circle(s) you want it to be visible to. Be it pictures, photos, an announcement that you've started a group video chat (hangout), etc. Before I had to isolate my social life from cubing just to avoid people complaining about me constantly posting gibberish, or "showing off" my abilities when I post speedsolving videos. Now I can keep the two together. I turned down a lot of cubers friend requests on facebook for this reason.
G+ is still in Beta, and invite only, but it's going public soon. Anyone who doesn't want to wait I'd be happy to send invites. They're sent through email though, so you might want to PM me them. I don't have a sent amount I can send so don't worry about that. Just thought it was worth mentioning. Anyone with a Google Plus account feel free to add me my name is Josh Larsen. It'll be the one that went to Dover High School. Good luck and happy cubing. ^_^
