Ghost Hand 2x2x2 pop

Okay, I hope someone can help me. Here's a photo of my Ghost Hand 2x2x2 after it spectacularly popped. Well, actually it pretty exploded and everything that could come off, did come off. I've searched Youtube videos on how to re-assemble the cube but all videos I found deal with situations where the stalk is still attached to the core while in my situation, they are still stuck on the pieces. I can get as far as getting everything back apart from the last piece which I just can't seem to click back, because the gap where the stalk goes in to is a lot smaller than the stalk itself. And if they try to loosen the springs to make it easier to widen the gap, another bit of the cube will fall out etc. It takes me literally half an hour to get it back into something that looks like a cube, but this has happened about 4 or 5 times since I got the cube last weekend.

So, can someone give me some advice on how to do this?

Turn the cube 45 degrees, and then try popping in the last inner piece.
