Hey guys!

I'm Leandre from the Philippines, and I first got into cubing back in 2007 when I was 10. In my first few months or so, I was using the beginner's layer-by-layer method. However, after I bumped into a friend who incidentally knew how to cube, I was enthusiastically encouraged to learn CFOP. I did exactly that and eventually got hooked into speedcubing.

I bought a couple of puzzles (which I now do not remember) from the U.S. and improved my times. I remember averaging about 30 seconds until I stopped sometime in 2009. I completely stopped following speedcubing in general, because of my interest in other things and because of the workload I had to deal with in school.

And then on December 8, 2015, in the midle of our finals week in school (lol), I saw my cube sitting in my drawer and I decided to just play with it. (Note: I only had finals on Monday and Friday, and it was a Tuesday that day, so I had all the time in the world.) I kind of decided to reminisce my old days as a cuber, leading me to look up videos on Youtube. I was surprised to find out that the world record was now 4.90 seconds (so much faster than the classic 7.08 I had known). I knew there was this prodigy named Feliks who'd beaten the "classic" record before, but I didn't know the record had dropped down to less than 5 seconds now.

Intrigued by my discovery, I continued going through some videos and finding out about new puzzles, new records, etc. I really got hooked, so I Googled for an online timer and started cubing again. I got like a sub-25 which excited me. Eventually, after a few hours, I decided to "officially" get back into cubing by tweeting about it.

***I probably meant to say 6 years (estimated very roughly at that time)

Since getting back, I was delighted to find out about local online cube retailers in my area (I don't have to wait a month for cubes now!). Before that though, I bought a nice cube (YJ Yulong) from a fellow speedcuber Enzo Bonoan in our popular college buy and sell Facebook group. I downloaded Prisma Puzzle Timer and started doing averages of 30 solves (my first being about 30 seconds).

Prior to getting back into cubing, I only knew like 12 OLLs and 11 PLLS, so I was far from efficient. I also always forced the x-cross and wasted loads of moves. There was much to learn, so I learned 3 more PLLs (Ga, F, Y) and watched loads of example solves (mostly from my idol, Feliks Zemdegs).

I stopped practicing, momentarily, to finish of my exams and my college organization's leadership camp. When I practiced again, my average dropped from 30 to about 28 in one night.

I decided to just focus on building the cross instead of forcing and x-cross all the time which gave me more consistent solves dropping my average to about 26.

For Christmas, I ordered another YJ Yulong (because mine broke), a YJ Guanlong, a Gans 356, a Moyu Pyraminx, and a Cyclone Boys 2x2, etc. from Cube Market Market for Christmas. I opened all but the Gans 356, so that I'd have something for myself to look forward to this Christmas.

Come Christmas night, I ended up breaking my personal best with my new favorite cube, the Gans 356. I got a 15.95, which really excited me. After practicing my look-ahead and my cross building more, my averages dropped to 23.00 which is my current record for an average of 30 solves.

Apart from the 23.00 average, I also broke my personal best today with a time of 15.28! This thing is really exciting.

Right now, I'm practicing to become color neutral before I finish off those PLLs and eventually those OLLs.

I hope to post weekly average of 30 solves somewhere (idk where yet -- any suggestions?) just to keep me going.

Super excited to get involved in the cubing community for the first time!

Belated Merry Christmas, everyone! :)
