Hey so I have been casually cubing on and off for a little over a year now, so im pretty familiar with the cube, but im sick of getting 1 minute times. So I decided to learn f2l oll and pll, i got intuitive f2l almost all figured out, for the most part im ok with it, just cant do it fast yet. People suggest 2 look oll and pll, i have NO idea what that is, could anyone please explain it? the way i figured id start was cross, f2l, then make the yellow cross on top that way there are only a few olls i have to learn, than id just memorize all the pll that way, advice would much be appreciated seeing as i just started 3 days ago :P

thanks guys

Welcome to the forums :)

2-look OLL is the step where you orient the top layer (so all the pieces are yellow (if you start with white cross))
So you take one look and make the yellow cross on the top layer.
And then you take the second look and one out of 7 situations will appear (=7 algorithms to learn)

2-look PLL works at nearly the same rules.
you take the first look, and you look at the edges. you use the U algorithm simultaneously to get all the edges in the good place.
then you take the second look and use the A algorithm to solve the corners.

I hope i helped.
For the algorithms, look on speedsolving wiki :)

Welcome! You seem like you are getting pretty committed to the cube in the past few days, no? anyway, OLL stands for Orientation of the Last Layer, which means you get the face opposite of where you started to cross, complete. Perform R U R' U R U2 R'. The OLL algorithm to fix it would be U' R' U' R U' R' U2 R. The PLL algorithm(PLL stands for Permutation of the Last Layer), which completely finishes the cube, would be U y2 (That means turn your cube 180 degrees to the right or left) R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R. It's actually quite simple once you grasp the concept. Happy learning!
EDIT: Oh, and another thing. Once you learn 2 look OLL and PLL, move onto full PLL and you can pretty much wait on the full OLL (over 40 algorithms O_O), unless you have nothing better to do, like me.

Look up badmephisto on youtube, he has a 2-Look OLL/PLL video with algorithms. Of course, there are other algorithms so lancetheblueknight and the speedsolving wiki have other algorithms.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, yeah earlier today I learned the concepts and it seems to me like i should just learn 2 look oll and full pll to begin with? maybe not.. i know it will take some time but may as well try it. I just ordered my first 2 speedcubes, a cube4you black diy (nib) and a diansheng cause it was so cheap.

thanks :P i like how every time i get on i have improved a crapload more than the day before, i got 4 of the 7 2-look OLL's ground into my brain and a couple PLL's now. victory is close, i can taste it :P

From one new person to another...Don't forget to have fun! I am at two months...when I first started timing myself I found that I was getting frustrated/discouraged...once I stopped taking the times so seriously, I began to relax and my times began to improve. Note the times down to use for reference however, learn from them rather than focus on them.

yeah, my main goal is just to be familiar and practiced with f2l and oll and pll, so i can have fun speedsolving and actually be SEMI good at it. beginners method is so boring now
