Fukuoka Kengo James' Progression Thread

Anyway, I'd like to focus on 3x3 at the moment. How should I start learning F2L?
I'd learn to identify when you can make an F2L pair first, and then learn how to make them without an opportunity already laid out.

For example, since you use LBL, when you're inserting the first layer corners there are three cases where all you have to do is insert the corners (R U R' U' for right case, y L' U' L U for left case, R U2 R' U' R U R' U' for top case). Also, learn how to insert F2L pairs.

That post is from a while ago. Since he averages sub 20 I would think he knows f2l now.

Yes, that’s an old post. It was even before my first comp😅

First ever sub 30 3x3 OH solve and it’s even a sub 28!

I personally use keyhole. It's faster than LBL but you don't get shamed by everyone at the competition. I know that he knows f2l now but i just use keyhole and with full PLL and 2 look OLL I can average sub 30 comfortably.
I do full PLL and 2 look OLL as well, but I do normal F2L + pseudo slotting for F2L, where keyhole can be part of pseudo slotting. Like my PR solve of 17.83, I did pseudo double Xcross and last 2 pseudo F2L pairs inserted at once, ending up with a 50 moves solve. I know many think that pseudo slotting is too advanced for a sub 20 cuber to do, but as I originally learnt pseudo slotting for FMC but not specifically for 3x3, I understand how pseudo slotting works from its concepts instead of just using it to make me “better” on 3x3. I’m very used to that and I can do pseudo F2L pairs pretty much without any pauses. However, I’m trying to prioritise doing normal F2L cases instead unless the pseudo F2L is a rather easy case, as doing full pseudo F2L cases may make me slower overall, as there are way too many pseudo F2L pairs to choose from.

I use keyhole F2L for OH
To be precise, I do full pseudo F2L with OH so as to reduce regrips and cube rotations, and as my tps is lower with OH, I can look ahead pseudo F2L pairs comfortably with OH.

Tbh if you can do full PLL and 2 look OLL, sub 30 isn’t good at all if you’re talking about 2 handed. I have both of your mains tengyun v1 & v2, and I think your mains should be decent enough for you to get sub 20 once you have learnt F2L.

also what cube do you use?
I've seen many other cubers making progress with their very own progression threads, so I've decided to make one for myself.

hey I wanted to follow you but your profile is private

you are a great forum user and I love your mods and overall posts

I wish I had the patience to magnetize cubes as you do 👏👏👏
