I personally think that Yiheng is getting the exact treatment every single Asian kid is getting (like me, my mom gets mad at me when I get like 1 mistake on my tests). As far as I can tell, the parents of the West don't pressurize their kids (can't confirm). They understand that their kid has a breaking point for something. On the other hand, Asian parents want their son to succeed in life, get a Lamborghini, and start a Beijing corn business.

For me personally that's not true, but in general I think western parents might be a bit more relaxed (but it depends on the circumstances).

There's all kinds of parents all over the world, but Asian parents in general are definitely far more strict than American (or western in general) ones. Any good parent wants their child to strive to success, but the general culture in a lot of Asian countries does encourage more strict treatment. In general I'm all for stricter parents (western parenting nowadays can be quite ridiculous, but that's a story for another time), but to be honest some stories I've heard (including firsthand accounts from people I know irl) are a bit disturbing.

Verbal abuse, emotional abuse, and mental abuse are all forms of abuse. If she is verbally abusive(and most likely emotionally, as those two things usually coexist), she is an abusive person.

Now, should the WCA get involved? No. This purpose of the WCA is not to impede on private lives. The only thing they can really do is ban Yiheng for... being a victim? What the WCA should act on is David Epstein's wicked behavior. While David's behavior may very well be a result of a broken/abusive household, as is often the cause of his behavior, it is no justification to abuse others and make racist and ageist comments. I could go on but this is obviously a very different matter.

While I agree with you, we have much more pressing issues in the WCA, (such as the case with David,) to be worried about a mom shouting at her child. You are correct, the WCA shouldn't get involved. While I don't at all support the mom doing this, this could happen to many people, and would be too common of an issue to deal with.

He do that in my daughter's school. Newton Grammar School, right in the multi-purpose hall. Poor Yiheng. He has to face this almost ALL the time.
