Forum Upgrades, New Rules, and More

Should we just make a poll for this issue or make a middle solution like make an update thread similar to this one I'm talking in and just say we made a new feature where you can mute certain types of sub forums(you should just make this feature) and tell people who wanna mute progress threads to just do so instead of doing it automatically for every member who joins

I vote to keep them off. Honestly, I browse SS a lot less when it’s filled with progress updates.
If it’s decided to keep them on the front page, I’d like to see some discipline applied around naming conventions so it’s very clear what these threads are. In the past we’ve seen progression thread titles using long strings such as “ZBLL 57 Going to my first comp! Also squan!!” and then completely changing every couple of days. It’s difficult to wade through.

(Note, I said IF, if I don’t see them and that’s what people want to do I don’t mind)

I asked for it. I don’t see any problem of bringing them back, and this brings attention
Wait, the progression threads, whose existence on the main page caused many arguments in the past (and that's why eventually they got removed from the main page), are back because one person asked it?

Or I'm missing something.

Can I ask them to be removed again then?

The reason i keep asking for polls and middle solutions is because bro what are we doing some choices annoy alot of members and make some members happy but there are obvious middle solutions like the confused emoji some people say yea no this is disrespectful but some say its useful so why not make a ? Emoji to settle everything
Im calling the mods to start doing solutions because bro like 30 messages of arguing and much more in other threads are filling up everyday because of these website issues
Same for the progress threads, we shouldn't take just a randoom opinion and assume others wont argue, just do a logical solution that fixes everything
i mean you kinda have to discuss for a solution…

You can’t just pull a “middle solution” out of thin air without anybody else’s opinions, plus keeping a website up is not easy, so you can’t just go “oh let’s do this” and then change it a few days after.

I have no idea it was that easy
You could if you want

Yo could you fix this

1) Cubing progression threads should be hidden from the main page, like before.
2) A system for muting sub-forums should be introduced, so users can decide for themselves whether they want threads like these showing up. Would also be neat if we could mute a sub-forum while still choosing to Watch the specific users' threads we're interested in getting updates for.
3) Same as #2, but muting the cubing progression sub-forum by default so that new users don't see them unless they opt-in.

My vote would go toward either 2 or 3, with a bias toward 3. Just not a fan of the current system, where a huge percentage of the main-page posts are progression threads. What does everybody else think?
I'd vote for option 2, if it's possible on Xenforo, but I'd personally want everything, rather than nothing if those were the only two options. Forum competitions, like the "Speedsolving Championships 2026", have appeared on the front page with similar frequency to progression threads at times, and people who don't like them don't engage, instead of rallying for their removal.

Progression threads were a huge part of the community around the time that I was most active. (2022-2024) When they were removed from the front page following Unirox13's infamous post, it was as if people slowly stopped using them, and using them post front page removal felt like typing into the void. Also, it feels really nice seeing the newer members post in their progression threads and getting hyped by others, like we did before Unirox13's post.

Thinking about it, I'm probably the only person who cares this much about this topic. :v

We need some kind of negative reaction emoji other than 😡, 'cause (i have experienced this), people just use it in the place of them, especially to new members, it would make the community appear unfriendly/very sensitive, and cause them to leave. Either that or just remove 😡 altogether?

EDIT: Also, I would love an option to make inspection time count up instead of down in the new timer.

I honestly don’t recall a time when the entire homepage was filled with forum comps, or even close. Progression threads, on the other hand…

sorry : (
but really, i didnt the dedication it took to remove it off the homepage (i didnt even know it was removed by the community!) and i thought it gives more attention and making it visible nicely
you could ask too remove it if you want, or is it too late?

Still waiting for the thread muting feature... Also can the mods add like the notifications/muting features like when you really wanna watch (and dont understand it wrong i mean know aboit) someone like you just add when he posts in profile you get notifications like watch similar to threads anyway if you cant do any of the features then just mute the progress threads but make a thread where yoy announce where you can find them in the sub forums and same thing if you could do the features just announce it and people can mute them

I personally think the “👎” should be the universal “negative reaction”, since the angry reaction definitely makes me feel irritated (lol)

I think 👎 should be added, alongside the return of 🤔, or a ❔ emoji, since I've just been using the 😡 emoji in its place. (Not saying we should remove 😡, because it has its uses.)

❔ would be my vote.
I think also these are commonly used too
🙂 😭 😱 💀
I do not really understand the purpose for 💀 but ppl love it for some reason and they should use it if they wanna.
I think these are also appropriate. I like them. Having more of a choice makes a bigger impact on how we react.
