I was just wondering of what direction people do their insertions in. Personally I do it backward i.e. from the end as I don't have to re-scramble after applying the stickers.

I normally go backwards to find the best candidates, then go forwards to apply the best candidate and verify it works. I must admit I find going forwards is less error-prone as there's no need to invert on the fly.

I also use blutack instead of stickers. Although it's not technically permitted in the rules I wasn't penalised for using it in competition. The rules should probably be a little more flexible with what can be used to mark stickers.

I usually look for insertions from the start.

After the x corners left stage I typically check my solution obtained so far:
- 1 write the solution corrected for premoves and or NISS
-2- apply the written solution and (if correct...) sticker the pieces to be cycled
-3- finish solution with comms (as back up solution)
At this stage I have a solved cube so for me insertion hunting begins at the start of the solution.

;)

I like the Blutack idea. Personally I use small dot stickers.

I agree the rules for markings should be adjusted: I would love to use my colored Guhong (as I do at home). I prefer no to place stickers onto stickers.
You could even use markers on the Guhong ;)

From the start for sure. Way less error prone and the time to rescramble is negligible, especially when you compare it to how much longer it would take me to do insertions backwards.

I have done it from the start without really thinking about it. Now after reading this and actually thinking about it, it makes sense. :3

from the start so I can go ahead without reading the solution move by move... I'm sure that if I would start from the end I'll get lost.. (myenglish is terrible I know :()

No it's not! I think your post is in near* perfect English.
Your written English is better than that of some of the native speakers on this forum.

* what comes to mind:
If you use "would start" you "would get lost" or just leave out the "would" : I'm sure that if I start from the end I'll get lost..

But I'm not a native speaker myself so I might be wrong here :-)
