Fingertricks, triggers, and finger shortcuts

Finger Tricks and Finger Shortcuts are the same thing - ways of optimizing your moves by doing using less re-grips, and doing special things with your fingers.

Triggers, are a type of finger trick, leave it to someone better to explain, but I believe it's when one move finishing 'triggers' another.
Example : R U R'
after the first R, yor right index finger could be on the URB piece, making the U one finger flick. With the rest of your right hand still holding the side normally, you could then pull the R' just back down.

that's correct. triggers are groups of moves usually of length less than 5 that are very fast to execute. So naturally you want many of these 'triggers' occuring in your algorithms.

Like F R2 U' R' U'?

I would say R2 U' R' U' can definitely be considered a trigger. The F in front can be done fast too, but it depends on your current hand position on the cube, it may require you to let go of the cube for millisecond.
anyway there are no set rules or something like the "big list of triggers". If you think you can execute a sequence of moves very quickly without letting go of the cube at all, then it's a trigger.

See, I'm glad that someone asked this. I always thought that a 'trigger' was exactly what it sounds like... like a U turn.

I think the reason that I thought this, is because I remember seeing a youtube video and the guy explained the alg that he was using as a 'double trigger'... and then in the move, there was a U2, so he did (what I thought) a double trigger (turning the U face once with his index finger, and a second time with his middle finger).

I'm glad that someone explained it... because I never would have known.

Well what makes that a trigger is that he did the U2 with two different fingers instead of the same one twice. So then it is a finger trick done in one motion just like the other things shown.

So just a simple U2 is considered a trigger?...

The distinction that I didn't make was that I ASSUMED that a trigger was limited to U (like pulling a trigger on a gun... double trigger = two U turns... like in paint ball), when in actuality, there are a LARGE number of triggers, right?

A trigger is a simple sequence of moves that can be executed fast.
U2 *is* a trigger, because it is a sequence of moves.

Please do not ask for a list of 'triggers', because there isn't one. You should come up with your own tricks and triggers.
