[WR] Feliks Zemdegs 3x3 OH single 6.88

If you compare the scramble Feliks received which is in the video (will be made public when decision is made) to the cube he was supposed to, you can see there were 8 pieces different, aka one side minus the centre. This shows it was likely just one move. If you put tape, or otherwise kept track of all those 8 pieces, solved the cube and then slowly applied the scramble you can track when all 8 pieces are on one side. That's the point where the scramble was incorrectly done.

This is a common FMC technique where you can find premoves

Wow! You should be a teacher! You know how to explain things so that they're easily understood. I feel even dumber now :(

Thanks man, I was actually going to go into a teaching course 6 months ago, but I realised I would prefer to not spend my entire life working so went into economics where an entry level job far outearns an experienced teacher. Teachers get terrible pay here.

Do go on.

I kind of just explained it. Say there's an easy 2x2 block with an edge flipped. You can separate the edge from the rest of the block by moving it before you scramble. It's much easier to demonstrate with examples, but I'm on my phone with no cubes near so I can't give one. Just google about it, I'm sure you can find out more. If not, PM me in a few days. This is a thread about the OH WR, not about FMC techniques

I think that the scramble that Faz got should be looked into.
Is it possible to solve in less than 20 moves? if not, then give him the wr since it would still fall into the realm of fully scrambled cubes.
We know that there's no intentional foul here.

The regulation for fully scrambled is at least 13, I believe. Almost all positions can be solved in under 20 moves. This scramble had an optimal solution of 18, according to others in this thread. 18 moves optimal is very common.

Sorry for continuing the off-topic a bit longer but the same happens in my country and it is a BIG mistake. What can be more important for the future than the proper education of the next generation of citizens by people that really care about teaching and know how to do it well? And the salary issue is driving off of teaching a lot of talented professionals.

then it sounds like it was a legit solve. He didn't know he got a miss-scramble
easy and lucky applies to method, so his luck then if it was easy or lucky "for him"

I think its unfair that they can reconstruct feliks solve and scramble because if I had made this solve they would not have any chance to reconstruct it. In my opinion they should count it.

You raise a very good point. How would they decide if there was no video of the solve? But, also, if the WR was done by not one of the best cubers in the world, would it be more suspicious even? The more so without any videos of the solve?

Flawed logic, if there is no proof for one murder, does that mean other murders shouldn't be charged? The reason this solve should stay, is that the scramble gave no advantage to the solver, that another official scramble couldn't give. I'm going to edit the first post as this thread is just getting cluttered with misinformation and repeated arguments

In the early days, inverse turns were sometimes written as -1 in superscript, like: R-¹ U² R

This isn't a bad idea, but would there still be issues with accidental bad printing or just misreading in general? Perhaps using small r's or something could be possible(just an idea, I know that r's are used in SiGN notation for other things..)

What if I was at the competition, and someone promised to give me 3 dollars if I got him a legit but easy scramble?

...Then I went over to the scrambling table and memorized the scramble
....Then I went back to my laptop and typed the scramble into my computer program
...and the computer program generates "typo scrambles" in which 1 of the moves is just slightly different (1 R becomes R', one B becomes B', etc)
...and then it checks each one of these scrambles for the lowest-move xcross, then spits it out to me.

...Then I go back to the scrambling table and scramble their cube. Then I go buy some candy with my 3 bucks.

Ok WCA

I'd charge a lot more than that. Especially for 3x3, when getting a WR with a MoYu cube offers some serious prize money.

The problem is that there are people who want money, and will do whatever job they can do achieve that.

Paying teachers huge salaries encourages people to teach the bare minimum in order to make a ton of money, especially considering how strong teachers' unions are.

I agree that it is flawed logic that the video should not be used. It's there and it should be used but I still think he raises a good point (whether on purpose or not) in the sense of "how would the decide if there was no video?". Thanks all.

I assume you are being sarcastic here regarding Moyu prizes. :)

I agree with you on the money problem but at least we would not drive away the ones that really love to teach. I'm not talking about paying teachers more that other similarly skilled professions, simply about not paying them less.

Or even for 30 dollars or 300 dollars. Integrity should have no price I'd say, but I'm an old dog.

I wouldn't do this for ANY dollar amount either. The point of my hypothetical was that it's extremely possible for cheating like this to be happening undetected on a regular basis, especially in lower profile cases without video/visual evidence.

In my opinion, if the scramble was NOT random-state generated by a program and printed on the WCA scramble sheet, the corresponding solve should be DNS or DNF.

The WCA needs to stop being wishy-washy about all this stuff

Which could not be attested either in case we don't have a video of the solve.

They wouldn't have to decide, because nobody would have noticed it was a misscramble

The actual scrambling speed is the issue.

You got me wrong.
I meant hand scramble and then you drop it on something that has the two cameras and is linked to a computer that has the scramble, it check the two given sides, if they are correct then pop a green LED or something.
