Hello, I use intuitive f2l with 2 look oll and pll i average about 39-43 seconds. i want to be in the sub 20s. I figured it it was my f2l that was keeping me from that goal. when im done with f2l the timer is usually at 23-26 seconds. people keep saying i have to learn algorithms to be faster. i looked for good easy and fast f2l algs. but failed. this summer i will learn full pll. so that will help me. Also i try to look ahead but it is hard because the corner and edge are REALLY scrambled. So any tips? can you tell me what you do?

Thanks

i right about where you are. I've read on other threads that a metronome helps. I was just practicing with one. Just google online metronome and you'll find a free one. Set it at about 30-40 beats per minute, and just make one move for every beat. While you're doing moves look for the next pair you need, and track the pieces so you'll be ready to break them up, pair them up, insert them etc.. when the time comes. That will help alot with look a head. Going fast while trying to improve your f2l won't help at all, you have to take it really slow.

I agree with all these other guys. Follow what they say. Also, once you get much faster at F2L, learn to pair up and insert the pairs from different angles. that should help you out. Also look for the fastest way to insert or pair up the pieces. Try doing what the two posters said first then try what i say. If you watch some fast cubers, you'll notice they have their eyes and heads moving/scanning the cube as they turn the sides. It really does help.

I know how you feel, crosman; I was stuck at 40 for some days until I magically broke 30 in a matter of twenty or so solves one day XD

You should aim to have your cross finished within the first 5 or so seconds, since your inspection should have found 3, if not all, of the cross pieces and realized how to place them.

Please be aware that I know maybe 5 F2L algorithms at most, but I still average mid 30s and sometimes high twenties.

Aim your F2L to be finished at 18 to 21 seconds; that way you still have a shot at getting sub-30s with an easy LL.

Don't just train full solves, it never works, at least from what it seems like what you're saying.

Instead, look up Dan (Harris)'s Cube Station and go to the F2L section; his examples are really nice. Don't read the algorithm and apply it mindlessly (just do the scramble on a scrambled cube) and follow the example for placing the corner and edge pair into it's slot. It really helps to visualize something when they give you a nice animation to go along with it.

Using a metronome also helps to some extent, but right now visual examples are what you need; when you break sub-35 (with ~25 F2L), then use a metronome, it really speeds you up.
