i use fridrich to do my cube (i still use a piece of paper, i havent learnt them yet) and when attempting the megaminx i do the first two "layers" using f2l intuitive and then i get stuck on the last layer. I have watched alot of youtube videos and it seems that you cannot use the fridrich algs for completing the megaminx. To me it looks like they permute the edges, and then the corners, then orientate the edges and then corners. Is there an equivilant so that i can just use my fridrich algs to complete it?

as you can tell i am very confused, and advice would be welcome!

thanks alot

I use the T perm, Y perm and the J perm to cycle edges.

The a perm needs a bit of an extra turn, but i use that to solve corners.

For megaminx, I orient the edges, then permute edges, then permute corners, then orient corners. My way is not ideal, but it is simple and works for me.

F R' F' R U R U' R' can be used to flip 2 edges (on 3x3 or megaminx). Repeat as needed until all edges are oriented correctly.

R U R' U R U2 R' can permute 3 edges while keeping edge orientations intact. This is known as "Sune" for 3x3. Repeat as needed.

R' U L U' R U L' U' will permute 3 corners (and twist them), but keep edge orientations and positions intact. This is known as "Niklas" for 3x3. Repeat as needed until corners are permuted correctly.

(R' D R F D F') U? (F D' F' R' D' R) U?' is a commutator that will twist 2 corners on the U face, keeping all else intact. I use the "?" to signify that you turn the U face until a bad oriented corner cubie is in the UFR position. Undo the U? when done. Repeat this until all corners are oriented.

I do the steps in the same order as you. With good algs it's quite efficient.

F R' F' R U R U' R' can be used to flip 2 edges (on 3x3 or megaminx). Repeat as needed until all edges are oriented correctly.
Why not FRUR'U'F' ? It works also on both 3^3 and megaminx and it is faster.

R U R' U R U2 R' can permute 3 edges while keeping edge orientations intact. This is known as "Sune" for 3x3. Repeat as needed.
Warning: on the normal sune, it's U'2 not U2. On the megaminx it makes a difference.
You can do large sunes (L U L' U2 L U2 L' or L U2 L' U L U2 L') to permute 3 non-adjacent edges. This covers all but one case, which I solve with the following alg (L U L' U L U' L' U2 L U2 L') which is in fact nothing else than a normal sune followed with a large sune, with cancellations.

R' U L U' R U L' U' will permute 3 corners (and twist them), but keep edge orientations and positions intact. This is known as "Niklas" for 3x3. Repeat as needed until corners are permuted correctly.

You can always solve the corner permutation with at most two niklaas (and setups). For the double 2-cycle cases, I prefer algs based on (sexy move)^3.

This is the step where you really need more efficient algs to go fast. I have one alg for each possible orientation case, most of them being 2-gen.

@TMOY, thanks! I will use FRUR'U'F' now for edge orientation. I actually use that already for 3x3. But the one I mentioned was one I found 20 years ago for 3x3 and noticed it worked on megaminx. I don't know why I didn't try the one you mention. You are very correct -- I should have said U'2 to undo the U face on Sune. Oops!

I hate to say this, but I just use the "Dan Brown method." I think its actually more efficient than OLL-PLL. Sometimes I try to do BH for the corners, but I suck at it.

OK, here they are. I most warn you that most of them are not 3^3 algs :)
Twisting 2 corners: I use the classical sune-antisune (LUL'ULU'2L'R'U'RU'R'U2R) for adjacent corners, same with a setup for non-adjacent.
Twisting 3 adjacent corners CW: (LUL'ULU'LU2LU2L'U'2)^2. For CCW I use the inverse, for 3 non-adjacent corners I use the same alg with a setup.
Twisting 4 corners, depending on the case:
- LU2L'ULU'L'ULU2L'2U'2LU'L'ULU'L'U'2L and its inverse for two adjacent CW and two adjacent CCW;
- (LUL'ULU'LU2LU2L'U2)^2 for two adjacent CW and two non-adjacent CCW, and its inverse for the opposite case;
- LUL'ULU'L'ULU'2LR'U'RU'R'URU'R'U2R and its inverse when CW and CCW are mixed.
Twisting 5 corners, 1 CW and 4 CCW: LUL'ULU'L'U2LU'2L'ULU'L'U2LU2L', and the inverse for 4 CW and 1 CCW.

the best video i found was this, but it doesnt even follow through to the finish!
