Eriol's training log

Most of my 5x5 solves now land around 3:30 or so. Got ao100 down to sub 3:40 already yesterday and now it's at 3:39.37.

On the other hand practicing big cubes have made my 3x3 solving slip a bit. I have problems remembering algs sometimes. Most recently F-perm was completely gone from my mind. But then later on it showed up in a solve and just closed my eyes and did it as quickly as possible, which worked much better than pausing to remember.

Reached 70 Megaminx solve today and got a new single PB with 4:08.96. Also improved on my best ao5 to 5:01.55. Pretty solid, but not fast, on last layer now and I'm also getting better at finding pieces and forming pairs. I really should try to get a a better grip and finger tricks on the Megaminx though. I tend to use the table quite a lot during solves.

Watched PSL Las Vegas while doing quite a lot of 4x4 solves this morning. Was solving really well and finally I got that lucky solve with no parity and PLL-skip resulting in a new single PB at 1:18.68. Also lowered ao12 and ao100 somewhat to 1:36.43 and 1:44.82 respectively.

Did another online competition at cubik.fi today. Today's program was 3x3, 2x2 and Pyraminx, but work-related stuff in the evening made it impossible for me to take part in all of them and I choose to prioritize 3x3. For the first round I was arriving really late, when I got into the site it was like 11 seconds remaining before the start. But despite not having any warm-up it went pretty good in the first round. Average of 28.76 with 24.93 as my best solve. For the final I was a bit more prepared and started really well the three first solves, with the second being a really nice 21.71. But then it went downhill from there with two terrible solves at the end (36 and 35 seconds). Still got another sub-30 average though, which makes me quite confident that I should be able to do sub-30 in a real competition too.

Got my first ever sub-4 om Megaminx today with a 3:56.99. I have also reached 80 total solves and improved my best ao5 to 4:31.20 and ao12 to 4:52.00.

It's a lot more fun to practice a new event once you have stopped doing stupid mistakes in every solve, but still feel like you're getting better all the time.

Was just gonna do some relaxed 3x3 solving while cooking food today but accidently got a new ao5 PB with 21.60. :) The solves were like 21, 29, 22, 20 and 20. Didn't have a single skip in the average, just easy crosses, easy F2L and good solving.
