When you do the steps that are like F2L on a 3x3, do you pair up the corner edge before getting to the insert layer, or do you get them both in the insert layer and then do an f2l insertion?

I think what he said, was do you pair up the pair anywhere on the minx. The other option was to bring the pieces into the U layer of the slot needed to be solved. I'm pretty sure that he pairs up the pieces wherever they are.
