Embed algs and solves using Twizzle

Here is an alg Sheet I use

You are right. The algs are mostly for L4E and there the bottom layer is not very interesting.

The 2D view looks cool but if you dont see the pieces move, it's hard to understand.
Maybe something like the FTO Example above.
Probably it's already enough to let the user turn the puzzle a little more. In the moment, if i try to change the view it blocks at some point and I can't turn it further.

This is from the front but the similiar view from the top would be optimal for me.
Maybe with markers to see the downside

I made a top view of it at https://github.com/nbwzx/blddb-py, the live site is https://py.blddb.net. I think this is what you want.
The code relevant is
<twisty-player id="tw" style="width: 10em; height: 10em; margin: -1em -1.2em -1.5em -1.2em; pointer-events:none;" puzzle="pyraminx" alg="F' B U D' ${pyAlgToInfo[i][0]}" experimental-setup-anchor="end" hint-facelets="none" control-panel="none" back-view="none" background="none" camera-latitude="-22.5" camera-longitude="60"></twisty-player>
I use F' B U D' here because of the limitation that if I try to change the view it blocks at some point and I can't turn it further just as you said.
I don't know if there is a easier way to show such a top-view image.

Hi,
Is there a way to programmatically use Twizzle?
My goal is to populate an alg sheet in Excel with lots of algs (and the corresponding image case)
Currently I use http://cube.rider.biz/visualcube.php for my 2x2 and 3x3 alg sheets.

It is great because you give input parameters in the URL and you get an image in the end. Alas, it is limited to NxNxN cubes.
I didn't find a way to do something similar with Twizzle or cubing.js, which could extend my (automatic) alg sheets to the other platonic solids.
Is it possible?
You can use cubing.js (what twizzle is made from) to generate images, which works for websites (not google sheets unfortunately)

Im actually working on this for my own alg sheets. I populate a google sheet with my algs, and expose each algset as a JSON using an API using AppScript.
This is the Sheet.
Then I read them from the API in my website code, and instead of using one of the many visualcube API deployments for images, I use the typescript fork of visualcube, or cubing.js to get an image of the case, and in addition to the image, you also get a visualization of the case using cubing.js.
This was my solution (and a fun side project) to get dynamic images for megaminx since cubing.js was the easiest way I found to generate megaminx images given an Alg input string.
This is the site. and the Github.
(hint: click the images to get the 3d visualization, its my favorite feature)

Given that Google Sheets (not sure about excel) doesnt support SVGs, you cant create an API to output an SVG to embed into an gsheets file, so my implementation is probably the best solution at the moment for many images / visualizations of any type of puzzle, and as a bonus you dont make any API calls to overwork external APIs in the process of loading the algsheet.

Probably the easiest way to fix this would be for cubing.js to support PNG output of all of the LL visualizations it can currently make SVGs for, since you can embed those into a google sheets file. Im pretty busy at the moment with life but I was considering making a contribution to the cubing.js project to handle all of the things it doesn't have for my use case.

There are a few possible options, but the biggest limitation is that scripts for Google Sheets don't provide access to HTML canvas. We would need a canvas polyfill or something similar.

If you just want to export PNGs from SVGs, though, that shouldn't be too hard. Are you imagining a way to automatically add these to a sheet, or to add them manually?

the idea was to automatically insert them into the sheet using similar functions to how most sheets that use to get images from a visualcube api.

I personally dont need that functionality anymore but I still think it would be beneficial, since I dont think there is any visualcube fork that supports noncubic puzzles like megaminx and uses the case as input rather than sticker colorings (and that the output can be inserted into sheets using IMAGE() and HYPERLINK())

Kilominx now supports 3D animation:

Clock now supports experimental generalizations of WCA notation for:
  • 3-pin moves (e.g. ULw1+)
  • Back moves (e.g. BUL1+)
  • Diagonal 2-pin moves (e.g. MUL1+)
  • New rotations (e.g. x2, z)

I've updated the fallback HTML so that it also includes the setup alg (when there is one). Same goes for the title.

This normally won't be visible long enough to see, unless you're visiting the forum on a slow internet connection (e.g. mobile) for the first time in a while. But it should hopefully make it easier to follow along with a posted reconstruction in those situations.

Lucas, I'd like to say from my heart that thank you.

Thank you for everything you have done for us and the community.

I remember once I broke off my master magic, literally found no resources on how to restring it, and since its 2023 I didnt know where to look.
But then I still found your magic page, honestly, it was an absolute lifesaver (even though its from like 2008 😅).

I sincerely appreciate your dedication to maintaining your old projects, making them accessible to everyone over the years, and continuing to contribute to the cubing community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Glad to hear it! 😻

In the next 5-10 years I'll be working on making all these projects self-sustaining, but I'll be staying pretty directly involved until then.

is it just me or does only 3x3 and the 2d puzzles work in the editor?
Looks like we had a compatibility issue while upgrading our 3D library. It should be fixed now, thanks!

Too many threads about Twizzle, feel free to place this post somewhere else if more appropriate.

While playing with settings (https://alpha.twizzle.net/edit/?stickering=L2C&puzzle=5x5x5 to be specific), I noticed 3D view differs from 2D view. Also, under "L2C" I imagine last 2 centers which are not displayed in 3D view nor 2D. Maybe I am misunderstanding something?

Apologies, I lost track of this issue. I've made a note to look into it!
