once i jumbled my edge 3cycle by about 1 or 2 moves, but the result was not a messed up cube, but instead i have done the 3cycle, but on the other side of the cube, it was very strange. I could not replicate it, but it seems very useful as it saves a y2 rotation.

Does anyone know what it is? Its like the regular 3cycle R U' R U R U R U' R' U' R2, but slightly different.

And while we are on the topic, did anyone ever stumble by some other variation of some PLL that saves a cube rotation? Saving a y2 rotation could reduce the time even up to about 0.5 seconds!

http://solvethecube.110mb.com/pllalgorithms.html – They're on Joel's page as the U perms.

R' U R' U' R' U' R' U R U R2

And

R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R.

Incidentally, I've been thinking about creating a thread for this, but it seemed like too small a question. I hope you don't mind, my question's also about the U perm.

I've been thinking of switching to Erik's M-based U perm (M2 U M U2 M' U M2 and M2 U' M U2 M' U' M2)), but I can't do U' easily from the grip I use for M turns. I do them with my left hand. Does anyone else have this problem?

have you tried using your right thumb? or if it is an M2, then practice using one of your right hand fingers for the second part of the M2.

@badmephisto: i have seen RU algs for 3 positions, and an LU alg for the 4th. i have also accidentally found the MU U perms after playing around with other forms of MU Z perms.

I use:

R2URUR'U'R'U'R'UR' (8: inverse, mirrored across LR, and mirrored across FB)
R2URUR2'U'R'U'R'U2R' (4:mirrored across LR, and mirrored across FB)

I don't yet have anything for the last case, i.e. UF-UL-UB in <U,R>. U' setup is the best I've seen, and CE doesn't give anything better.

I don't know the 11 move 3 edge cycle from the back, but I have occassionally used R U R' U' L' U' L U2 R U' R' U' L' U L. It's longer, but fairly quick to do. It's better to learn the normal 3 edge cycle from the back, though.

I was messing around with my cube this morning and did a combination of the two U perms I do. R U' R U R U R' U' R' U' R' U2 R'

cube explorer says:

counterclockwise edge cycle:
angle 1: R U' R U R U R U' R' U' R2 (11f*)

angle 2:R U2 R U R U R2 U' R' U' R2 (11f*)
R2 U' R' U' R2 U R U R U2 R

angle 3:R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R (11f*)

angle 4:U R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R U' (13f*)
U2 R U2 R U R U R2 U' R' U' R2 U2 (13f*)
U2 R2 U' R' U' R2 U R U R U2 R U2 (13f*)
U' R U' R U R U R U' R' U' R2 U (13f*)

clockwise edge cycle:

U' R2 U R U R' U' R' U' R' U R' U (13f*)

interesting how there's one 13-mover for each case.

What's that supposed to mean? That's a trivial consequence of the fact that there's an 11-mover for any of them.

Anyhow, while people are posting yet more silly U-perms, why has no one mentioned U2' R U R' U R' U' R2 U' R' U R' U R yet? I'll refrain from the Gouly U for now.

I guess what he wanted to say is that the left-hand 3-cycles are the only ones that require you to do a U move at the start and end. That makes sense because the good edge is on the right and you don't want to move that out of the way.

I do the M' and M2 with my right ring and middle, for a M2 I use both but for M' I use Middle finger.

Whats the Gouly U?
Is it like the Stryker Z perm?
