Hey guys I recently started cubing 2 or so months ago when my friend taught me how to solve a 3x3. Ever since, I've been completely engulfed by the motivation to get better. After an unhealthy amount of practice (5-7 hours a day), I dropped my times from around 2 minutes to 20-23 seconds. I've seen a lot of other cubers being stuck at around this range so this summer I've decided to get out of this range and finally reach sub 20. I'll post in this forum occasionally during my journey as to not disappoint the 2 people reading this post.
After looking at my splits (cross in 2.7, f2l in 12.2, oll in 3.4, pll in 5.2) compared to the recommended sub 20 splits (cross in 2.5, f2l in 9.1, oll in 2.7, pll in 3.7) I realized that my main issue was my f2l look ahead, pll speed and cross planning. With this in mind I created a practice routine mainly focusing on f2l look ahead:
20 slow track f2l solves (locate 2 f2l pairs before executing 1 try not to completely stop when searching for 3rd/4th pair)
20 metronome solves (goal by end of summer is 240 bpm)
F2l solves until pb ao5 (be mindful about cube rotations 3 max)
20 normal solves (plan cross out please) note: slow f2l = fast f2l
After day 1 (today) of this practice routine I don't feel much improvement but hopefully that changes throughout my progression.
