I make decisions based on value-gained. I like to do things that I think give me a greater payback for my effort.
So I learn all Fridrich OLLs and PLLs because I can see how it benefits speedsolving vs 2-look algorithms. I learn the cases that are easiest (lowest effort) or help to reduce time more (greater payback) first. I also learn them early so I can start practising with them in actual solves early.
Also I have not learn any other stuff like neutral color cross, X-cross, VHF2L, COLL, and ZBLL etc because I have not determined the benefit is worth the effort yet.
I am lazy and sometimes just remember 3 edge pieces for the cross and go by instinct for the 4th. I am lazy and don't bother to watch a lot of videos so my last layer and finger-tricks still suck, and my algorithms are not improving at a faster rate.
I like to do things with some gut feeling and not pure logic, so I remember algorithms by finger-tricks and feeling more than by the algorithm itself. Also I don't like to memorise full cross and prefer to work out the cross as I am solving.
