Does Feliks use Multislotting?

Guys, I've seen a lot of Feliks's reconstructions and in some it looks like he's using 'multislotting'. Is it luck, great lookahead, or does he sometimes 'multislot'?

He has just incredible lookahead and he knows how to set things up to end up in good places. The two things combined make him awesome.

Yeah sometimes I do multislotting, if the case is easy enough. (I'm assuming you mean stuff like D R U R' D')

I assume they're referring to this from your recent 5.86...
B D2 R2 B L2 F2 D2 L2 U2 R' D2 U L2 R' D2 B F2 D R U'

x2 // inspection
D R' F U' L2' D2 // cross
L' U L U R U R2' U' R // 1st / 2nd pairs
where people are seeing two slots written together (I guess you saw the cancellation) and going OMG MULTISLOT!!

Just out of interest Feliks, at what stage during your solve do you 'find' pairs?

What I mean is often you will insert a pair in such a way as to influence the case for the next pair. While it's not multislotting, it means you're tracking 2 pairs at that time.

So at what stage do you find pairs, generally speaking? How many are you aware of during inspection? Do you actively try to locate 2, 3, our even 4 pairs, or is it a bit more down to luck (i.e. If you see it, you see it, but you don't go out of your way to find it)?

Just curious really.

Kudos on the 5s last weekend, btw. About time you got that single WR back, don't you think? ;-)

lol yeah that's not multislotting. Even someone as bad as me would have seen that.

I'm not too sure at what stage I find pairs. For most of my solves I plan cross+1 in inspection, but from then on I don't do anything too specific, just lookahead. I don't think it's good to think too much during solves.

That's exactly what multi- slotting is, isn't it?

I believe the phrase was first used by Sebastien Feliks in his 'absolute mind' stuff (somewhere on orange.fr, don't know the URL off hand). There he talks about influencing pairs and multislotting as separate things. To my mind, a true 'multislot' is a single insert resulting in two pairs being inserted. Influencing your next pair is kind of 'beyond lookahead', if you like, but not 'true' multislotting!?

But perhaps that's just my interpretation?!

Anyway, the essence of it is acting on the next pair before you finish solving the current pair, which goes beyond just fortuitously running two pairs together, and beyond normal lookahead too. Definitely looks like a black belt technique to me :)

Scramble: R U R' L' U' L B2
cross: B2
F2L pair 1+2: L' U L R U' R'

Multi slotting!!!
