Does anyone know what Rubik's brand cube lube is?

I was wondering if anyone here knew what Rubik's cube lube was. It seems to work really well but ordering it by the small tube everytime you need some seems kind of silly. Thanks,

Brian

Yeah, you probably shouldn't waste your money on it unless you can make a big enough order to justify rubiks.com's exorbitant shipping costs.

I suggest going to your local Home Depot/Lowes/Wal-mart and picking up a can if silicon spray. That should work just as well. I prefer "Sprayway" silocon spray, but YMMV.

It seemed like some kind of silicone based protectant not too far off from Meguliars or Armorall. I just figured I would see if there was anyone who knew.

Thanks,

It is Shine-Up from SC Johnson company. It is part of the MSDS sheet for cube lube. I got some and now for $3 I have 12oz of cube lube :) Same smell and feel.

I've known what it is, but always thought it was an industrial product that I couldn't get my hands on. Where did you get it from? Especially for that price!

Yeah, I found some places where they sell it. But it's only sold in a gallon container for triple digits. Where did you get 12oz for $3?

MAN! I can never find a good silicon lube...they all seem to last for only like a day or two at most...may be it's just my cube that's busted...SERIOUSLY WANT TO BUY DIY!!!!!!@#%@#&DFGSDFg

Mean while I'll stay in touch with Ryan's Cube Simulator.... :D

A couple of months ago I ordered my first DIY and with it came this amazing cube lube, but only enough for one "shot" because I applied it a little to rough.

Then I started using silicon spray about once per month, which really helps, but is not as good as Rubik's Magic stuff.

Last weekend my second order from Rubiks came in and now my niece, nephew and girlfriend all have their own DIY and I used just some off its lube on mine. It immediately felt just like new and I can't wait to try a new average session tonight.

Why don't they sell this stuff in larger quantities at Rubiks?
Would it be possible to buy it somewhere in bulk and distribute it in larger quantities at the European Championship?
Why would anyone still use silicon spray when he could use this?

The thing about the Rubik's lube is that it doesn't last long enough and is just a tad thin. So what I like to do is mix the Rubik's lube with heavy shock oil (I use 80 weight), and if it ends up being too viscous, adding water to the mix works too. Apply, scramble and let dry - works wonders.

As for buying the stuff in bulk, like I said, they sell it in gallons, for $124 retail. I wouldn't mind buying the whole gallon, if there is enough demand for it. But otherwise, I'll just conserve the tubes that I have.

1 gallon = approximately 3.75 liter. I would really like to get SOME of this (or your special mix), but I guess 0.25 liter (1/16th of a gallon) would be more than enough.

Unfortunately I don't think you live near me (Netherlands/Europe).

Hopefully BrianP can tell us how he got 12oz for $3. 12 oz = approximately 0.36 liter.

It's only sold in the US and Canada.

Maybe if we all lobby Rubiks.com to sell it in larger quantities, they'll let us have it.

Come to think of it, you're right. I contacted them once about an order and they never replied. And they don't have a phone number listed on their site.

I found a number from the whois on the domain of some guy in Indiana, and don't think that will be any help.
