Did I get the right cube?

Sorry if I’m posting in the wrong area, this is my first post on this site. My son recently wanted a new cube and we decided to order the Gan 11 M Pro. I found it on Amazon for $45 and it had a 4.8 star review from 100s of reviews. I would assume the cube is legit but I had one concern after taking it apart. We were getting ready to change the magnet rods that click into the corners and I realized that the rods that were in the cube were round and white and the spare magnet rods that it came with were round and light blue. All the videos I’ve watched online show the rods to be triangle and the spare rods to be hexagon…I’m wondering if this is something they changed with the 11 M Pro or maybe I got scammed and it isn’t a legit 11 M Pro. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

This isn’t help about the actual question (sorry idk anything about that) but I’d recommend not buying off of amazon because stuff like this can happen where you might get scammed. If you live in US, check out SpeedCubeShop or TheCubicle, but yeah I don’t even have a gan cube so I can’t help with your question
Also welcome to the forums!

Yes, that is the right cube. The thing with the magnet rods is due to a recent change with the plastic molds for the cube. This is a slightly older cube, being from 2020, and cubes often get slight changes made as they get older. They changed the magnet rods in the Gan 11 to match the rods of the Gan 16 and 17, the newest cubes from the brand. The reviews that say the magnet rods are different shapes are just outdated.

The GAN 11 M pro is a 6 year old cube and there much better cubes like the GAN 16 and 17 which are the latest flagship GAN cubes. I’ll also recommend MOYU cubes which are also good and Amazon isn’t the best place to buy cubes, I recommend buying cubes from cubezz.

Thank you all for the reply’s and help. I do know it is an older cub but figured it would still Be decent not realizing that newer cheaper cubes are probably better. My son likes it so I’ll most likely just Keep it. I had some people recommend a DAYAN GUHONG PRO+. So I may order one of these to try also. Given it’s not really that expensive.

The Dayan Guhong Pro+ is definitely a good cube. I have one myself and I like it a lot.

Welcome to the forums, and good call checking before worrying too much — Michael's explanation is spot on. GAN did change those magnet rods over time, so round rods in the cube and round light-blue spares don't mean it's fake, just that it's a later production run than the ones in the older videos.

If your son likes how it feels, I'd just keep it and let him use it for a while. The 11 M Pro is older now, but it's still a perfectly good cube to learn on — the newest flagship isn't what makes the difference at this stage, getting comfortable with one cube is.

The Dayan Guhong Pro+ you mentioned is a good second cube to try, too. It's inexpensive, light and fast, and a lot of people like it as a main. If you do get one, let him try both for a week or so and keep the one that feels better in his hands, rather than going by price or age. And for next time, a dedicated cube shop like SpeedCubeShop or TheCubicle is usually a safer bet than Amazon for exactly the reason you ran into — it's easier to be sure what you're getting.

Thank you, I ended up keeping the gan because he likes it and still ordered the Dayan guhong pro+ just too see the difference…only had the Dayan for a couple days but he likes it the best out of the three we have…I’ll end up keep the gan just to have off hand if needed. Thanks again for the advice
