I've used CubingUSA.com for hosting competition pages, but I've finally done something with the main page. While some of the content is geared towards people new to speedcubing, there are a few other features that people might enjoy.
One thing you can do is sign up for competition notification, so that you'll receieve an e-mail whenever there's a competition "close" to you. The definition of "close" is defined by you.
Also, you'll be able to find other cubers near you, along with the option to be able to contact them (if they allow it). Initial contact is done through the website, so e-mail address are never revealed.
For future competitions, I plan on integrating the login with competition registration, so that you're able to go and update your registration to add/remove events. This is really helpful when events are added late.
But the advantage of something like this over Frappr is that with more direct access to the data, we can do more things. Like being able to force people to verify their account once a year. I'm sure many of the entries in the Yahoo group and Frappr are stale.
But hopefully, we can use this information to try to connect more people and as a result, more competitions. Yes, California has enough, but some other parts of the country could use some more.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.
