Cubing Titles?

Do you think having titles for cubing is a good idea?

I think it would be better to just say:
CFOP - Sub-X

This could be under your name. I think if we try and tackle other puzzles, it will be too big a job.

I know I'm completely contradicting my previous post, but I've changed my mind after seeing this.

And maybe we could scrap the Join Date and replace it with Started Cubing? I started May 2013, but only made this profile in 2014.

A lot of the things are the default for vBulletin and were never actually changed.

The idea about the tag under your name is similar to the name tags on /r/cubers.

Yeah, I saw that too. That's what made me think about having your speedsolving method under your name as well as your time. Maybe it isn't relevant to your speed, but it'll still be interesting to see the proportion of people who solve with the different methods.

It's big a job as is. There's over 20,000 Speedsolving members. Sure not a lot of them are active, but the number of active members are still plenty.

Also not everyone here has competed and how do you propose an accurate sub-blahblahblah tag. The WCA profile tag is simple enough for you to click on anyway and while the last competition may be outdated to some competitors, it provides a decent estimate I would say. And for those who haven't competed, tough luck.

To me , the join date isn't about how long you've been cubing. Your proof of how long you've been cubing should come from the quality of posts as a result of experience. Also changing everyone's profile will be ridiculous.

You could say "Oh, but Waffo, the mods can just enable editing their own profile." To which I will think you're ****ing crazy. Do you really trust members with that kind of power. I sure don't trust myself with that kind of power. It's just more unnecessary work, in my opinion.

How about the titles be official, and giving everybody a title, based on their Comp average? So you would have to join comp to get a title. Also, I thought about 2 years ago when I was playing YuGiOh, and there was an ID card. I think an ID card would be cool.

Mmmmm no.

The problem with this is that cubing is still so young that even if it were a good idea, it would still be years before it could be implemented well, as times are improving very quickly even still. (well, relatively quickly) So as a result, you'd have to constantly update the titles.

And don't we already have something to strive for? Namely, the sub-x thing that you yourself mentioned. People in chess don't have a definitive thing that they can strive for, like most games won or whatever, so they need the rankings. We don't. We have a definitive, hard as diamond set of rankings based on how fast we are (mostly).

So we can go for getting sub-whatever, and those are our rankings. Instead of some pretty arbitrary thing which has a hard to understand number which somehow indicates a measure of skill, we can look at our times, see who's above us and see who's below us, and do our best to keep improving.

It just seems like a pointless and bad idea, frankly. Sorry.
