Hey guys, TwisterTimmy here!

I couldn't think of a better place to ask about this, however, I was thinking if there could possibly be something we could do for the community as a world wide group of speedcubers!

For clarification; I had intend to do this because in my school (IB school) there is a requirement for a large assignment (span of 1 year) called a Personal Project, and I had planned on maybe doing mine on being able to use speedcubing in order to benefit the world! I am aware of how ambitious that sounds coming from a 15 year old boy, but I was inspired by a community event called Hoops of Hope, where people would get sponsors, and they would shoot a free-throw in order to keep piling up more money, this money is then donated to children in Africa who have lost their families due to HIV/AIDs. This all started from a 13 year old boy in the USA wanting to help.

So I would love it if you guys could chip in some ideas, and maybe we could all decide on an idea not just for me to engage but for everyone to possibly take part in, to let the world know about this awesome hobby and the things we could do with it!

Some things I thought of was to help children with ADD, ADHD, Aspergers, Down Syndrome, more to the "puzzle related" group that could be in aided, if that makes any sense.

If one were to come up with an idea, he/she WILL BE CREDITED for it within the process journal and documentation of the assignment, I will not take ideas that are not mine as my own!

Thank You guys :)

The only think i can come up with is that you would teach them how to solve a cube, and then organize some kind of event where you have to pay a little bit to come in, see as they solve cubes, be able to buy cubes and stuff like that. This would probably make everyone believe that everybody can do it, and that even if you have ADHD, ADD or anything similar, it wouldn't stop you from doing stuff. It would probably raise the self-confidence of the children, and possibly get more speedcubers to our community. Also it would collect some money for charity.

This is a bad idea, I'm aware if that :D

Thanks for the suggestions guys! :) Any idea is better than none! :D Please help spread the news of this post in order to get more attention from the community and so people could be more involved into it! :)

START A REVOLUTIIOOOONNNNN!!! (ok, maybe thats a bit too far...)

If it's a one year project, maybe instead of concentrating on one self-made event, concentrate on something you can do on regular basis over the year with a big finale (aka UK Open 2013?). I would start with organising a little Rubik's Cube club, either at your school or town/city you live in. For example, I live in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and i'm thinking of trying to get some people and organise a weekly/monthly Rubik's Cube club where people could learn as well as make new friends. If you join this idea with an idea of a charity, I reckon you could get some local recognition. Once you'll find a place (could be a Library, HMV cafe or Starbucks!) and advertise the club a little (like buying a Rubik's Cube costume and advertising on the streets or printing some leaflets), you can try and get in touch with local newspapers or schools. As long as there's a strong connection with the charity you're doing it for, I reckon you'd stand a chance! :)
As for a charity to help with, instead of ADHD or HIV, i'd advise you to concentrate on a problem that's much closer to you than Africa and get in touch with organisations that help with teenage self-harm or suicide. It's a problem affecting more and more teenagers and still not much is done about it!
I hope it helped a little! Let me know how it goes!
