[Help Thread] Clock Discussion

I've been playing with my new Sengshou clock for about 45mins now...I haven't been able to figure out how to solve it but I have managed to get a "cross" and in total newb fashion I was able to get "1 Side."

Fun puzzle so far. We'll see how far I can get intuitively.
Well you're half way there and if you understand how the pins being up or down affect movement on both sides, the rest of the solve should be straightforward.

How do I get faster at clock? I average right around 10, and can't get faster. Every single song is always a 10, and I can't get anywhere. I use the QiYi clock. Any tips?

Clock is a very simple event. To get faster, you need to practice. If practicing doesn't help, you need to practice even more.

Ok, so I’m about low 7 seconds to high 6 seconds on average. I think I’m qualified enough to answer this question. In general, there are no really advanced methods to learn. You definitely can, but it only starts becoming useful at about my level (and I don’t plan to learn them for a while). Find a pin pattern that works for you. I use a slightly non-standard one, and I’ve made some optimizations for special cases.

Clock is a pretty fluid event, in that you can make almost any strategy for solving work as long as it’s fast enough. And yeah, just better recognition in general is essential. Practice more!

ok dope, I knew that clock is a pretty simple puzzle and is pretty intuitive.

Edit: My pin pattern is UL, UR, DL, DR. idk if that's standard but it worked for me.

That’s not super common, I don’t think. I think generally most people have a pin order that goes around the circle. You just really need to make sure that when special cases, like doubled pins or cross pins come up, you know every time how to deal with them. I can talk about that more if you want.

That's some good advice! I found a pin order that works for me based on my strengths and weaknesses (my severely worse left hand... right handed gang) and it's UL, DR, DL, U

I’m on a budget of around 20$ ish and am looking to get into clock, but I don’t know what to get.

Should I wait longer and get the QiYi Clock or just get like the ShengShou or LingAo

Thanks
The QiYi clock is miles better than any other out-of-the-box clock, so if you don't want to set it up I would just save up some money and buy it.

If you are on a budget, I would get the ShengShou clock and break it in a lot, it's not QiYi good, but it'll work.

I would get the shengshou only if you want to set it up, its what I got, but it does take quite a lot of work. @Kit Clement has a really helpful video on how to set it up.
