Can't get sub-40

Store boughts almost never pop. They take more time to break in (about 100 times longer) but I have a couple that are really good and I've scrambled some store boughts at comps that were positively buttery.
If you lube Store boughts with Jig-a-Loo, they're really good.
Not saying that a standard silicone spray doesn't work (because it does, and well), but it doesn't seem to work as well on store boughts as Jig-a-Loo does.

i had the same problem for a while, couldn't get past sub-40 using f2l and 2-look pll and oll. one thing that helped me loose about 10 seconds is getting the cross sorted and trying to look ahead. you should try to do that rather than trying to learn loads more algorithms.
nowa days in stuck around sub-30 so my next step is learn full pll and oll

I'm starting to learn full PLL (I can memorize algs easy, got about 4 down in the last 2 days), I really need to learn to solve my cross faster though, it's one of the main things that slows me down. And on looking ahead, I'm thinking of ways to look ahead when I'm inserting a F2L pair or putting one together.

The main thing is practice. But i find that good cubes (AV, FII) make practice more enjoyable and fun to carry out meaning you'll do it more.
You can buy good cheap cubes from www.speedcube.co.uk (my store) and if you cant get jigaloo try 3-in-one professional silicone spray lubricant (yellow/black bottle with red lid)

It sounds to me like you are trying way too many things which are just slowing you down. I recommend you stop messing about, and just sit down for an hour a day and just solve over and over.

Average of 5: 48.70

5: 00:49.22
4: 00:44.06
3: 00:53.74
2: 00:43.24
1: 00:53.23

And I truthfully believe Dene, I think I'm trying to learn more than I can handle right now. But I need to order either an AV or FII soon because practice gets difficult with my current cube locking up and popping so often. I'll try to order one or so this week. And I'll focus more on my F2L and completely forget about full PLL for now.

Slow solving helps, I was busy for the past several weeks so I did not get much practice in. However, I would fit in a solve or two "slow" and that helped me improve my F2L execution. Also, I took an old cube and made a cross cube, this actually helpd my cross out significantly. Of course, I have a ways to go, I have gotten one sub 40 average solve, usually I hover around 42's however, I recently learned full PLL so I am starting to see some benefits. Again, as people said...it really does come down to practice.

Watch badmephisto's cross video and focus on some cross solves, note down how many moves so that you will know whether you are below the 8 to 7 move count. For F2L, learn some cases, I think this will help quite a bit. This is something I have started to work on as I progress to getting my PLL up to speed (relatively speaking of course...compared to 99% of the people on here my speed is well...pathetic) Last but not least, try downloading a metronome program, this will help with your look ahead. Again, focus on inserting F2L pairs from different angles and do not look at the pair you are inserting. Good luck!!!! BTW...Erik has some good F2L videos that compliment Badmephisto's.

And Badmephisto's videos...here is his page since he has so many, they are all pretty useful.
