Thoughts on the puzzle: Terrible. The two external layers overturns without any control. My CubeTwist are way better and stable. I don't recommand it at all. It's twice more expensive than a MF8 v1 whereas it uses the same pieces. A waste of money IMO.

I like it. It's very smooth right out of the box, low friction, and doesn't pop. The stickers are a nice color, too, and it doesn't come with a random color scheme like MF8 square-1s tend to.

does overturn mean that the cube might be too loose?

No, I tightened it a lot. I guess I just had bad luck with that cube. I only tested one. I had the same problem with a mf8 v1, but I have other mf8 v1 which don't overturn. It depends on the cube you get. But anyway, after playing with the calvin's square-1 and square-2, I'm really disappointed. My CubeTwist are way better... (especially for the square-2 !).

Where was the puzzle purchased: HKNowStore.
When was the puzzle purchased: Not sure exactly, early 2014.
Thoughts: Love it, my first ever Square-1 and it definitely hasn't put me off! A bit stiff at first but lubrication sorted it out. Only real issue was two edge pieces had caps which weren't attached, but it was easily fixed with a dab of super glue. Overall, great puzzle, but as it's my only Square-1 I can't compare it to anything :/

My friend bought one of these at Nats, and we both thought it sucked. Similarly to the Cubicle reviews for their Square-2, I found that the slice turns were decent, but the top/bottom layers were scratchy, slow and unpleasant. Considering to solve SQ1 you have to use these layers a lot, I rated it "poor" :(

Do like 50 solves, then Maru in both layers if you haven't already. Fixes the slow part.

Its my only square-1 and i suck at square one but I rated it average, Its pretty fast after lube but one side is faster than the other for some reason. corner cutting is basically none and one little cap didn't like to stay on (its a simple fix though). also I've had occasional pops but its not terrible. I'm curios about the Qiyi though.
