SS Competition Results
Ryan Patricio won the Caltech Summer competition 2007 with an average in the final of 13.47 seconds. Shotaro Makisumi finished second (13.51) and Dan Dzoan finished third (14.65).
North American records: Ryan Patricio 3x3 13.47 (average), Frank Morris 5x5 1:41.64 (single) 1:50.60 (average), Michael Gottlieb Pyraminx 8.54 (single) 9.57 (average).

From speedcubing.com, full results here.

Quite a competition. Nice to see Macky competiting again.

If you look closely to the results of the 1st, 2nd and final round you can see that Macky got worse every round and Ryan got better every round. In the final that was just good enough for Ryan to beat Macky.
Shotaro Makisumi: 12.97, 13.32, 13.51
Ryan Patricio: 14.62, 13.55, 13.47

Like Gilles once said, it's the curse of having a good solve at the beginning, but that doesn't mean anything, but you may push yourself so hard to keep up that good times, that's why it goes wrong mostly.

Congratulations to all and especially Justin!!:)

Well at home if I do a medium average with an puzzle I immediatly want to get another average wich is faster, but mostly I choke. :)

Anyway let's see how Lyon will turn out with the 1st, 2nd and final rounds speedsolving 3x3.:)

Wow Frank Morris was OH-SO-CLOSE to that 5x5 average WR. Congratulations to Justin on his 3:23, thats awesome. Macky's still got it.

I don't think that curse had any influence here. Gilles meant that if you start an average (of 5) with a really good solve you will mess up the other 4.

Macky had a good, medium, "bad" average of 5
Ryan had a "bad", medium, good average of 5

Last average counts though.

But... You have to notice that Macky is the only one with any sub-12s there. (Similar to Yu Jeong-Min at competitions, except with him, it's sub-13s.)

macky didn't really have a bad avg in the finals, i mean he's very consistent.

Ryan hit the timer twice on one of his solves and it said 0.32, I guess it was a DNF then, woulda been like 10.5 sec if he didn't mess up. Same for Macky, except his cube flew in the air and he caught it. :P
