hehe anyone here besides mrcage uses the cage method aka centres last (or any variant of it) for big cubes like 4x4 and 5x5 and achieves good timings with it?

my pb is 1:15.42 and BA 1:43.xx for 4x4, and 2:59.xx and 3:16.00 respectively for 5x5.

just wanted to know how many people use cage. yea.

Quite a few people use K4 for the 4x4 to success.

I actually use a method I came up with I like to call Roux by 4. My best competition time is a 1:12 with it.

I only recently came up with a different way to finish some of the steps that eliminates most of my parity troubles, and fixes many things at once. I still haven't learned the 10 or so algs, so I'm nowhere near full speed with it, though.

Basically, it's L and R centers, then finishing the 1x3x4 blocks, before doing U corners. Then, finish UL and UR edges, to complete the two sides, so only l and r slices are unsolved. Finish DF and DB intuitively, then use a single alg to finish UF and UB. The rest of the cube is solved with simple center commutators.

Hmm personally I'd not refer to K4 as a centres last method at all, but true there were some good times with it. But..as far as I know, (please correct me if I'm wrong cause I like a little challenge!! :) ) I still have the fastest K4 solve on video and I'm not even a K4 solver ;)...
It's still an ok method of course

Since 1982 I use K4 method but start with L & R centres first, then corners, then L & R edges the l+r-(slice)-edges, then remaining UDFB-centres. I averaged about 1.30 in mid 80's. By then my friend Marc Waterman averaged about 1.20. I'm not solving the 4x4 very often anymore so I became rather slow, just inder 2 minutes at competition. But in theory it wouldn't be slower than a most common's methods.
