I’ve been using beginners method for nearly a year and just started using f2l, using it has doubled my times and (according to my smart cube) has me doing the same number of moves. Should I just be practicing more?

Just keep doing F2L. F2L gets easier as you practice more but when you start, you're times will get worse. When i started learning F2L, my times went from like 1 minutes to a minute 50, but after 2 weeks i was averaging 40 secondsI’ve been using beginners method for nearly a year and just started using f2l, using it has doubled my times and (according to my smart cube) has me doing the same number of moves. Yes, that's what happens when you change methods. Your times will improve.I’ve been using beginners method for nearly a year and just started using f2l, using it has doubled my times and (according to my smart cube) has me doing the same number of moves. Should I just be practicing more?
I'm assuming you're EclipseCubing? Your TPS is decent, but you should not be taking 164 moves for a solve. Could you post a reconstruction of one of your solves?this is an example of one of my solves
This is completely normal, don't worry about it. My advice is to do solves without the timer in order to take pressure off of yourself while you're beginning to get used to and experiment with F2L. Just keep on practicing, and you'll get there, I promise.I’ve been using beginners method for nearly a year and just started using f2l, using it has doubled my times and (according to my smart cube) has me doing the same number of moves. if you get good at cubing, you will learn some lessons that apply to many things in life
the lesson is: when you learn a new skill, you get worse in the short term and better in the long term
