Good day and happy holidays.

I just got a Rubik's Revenge for Christmas after being bored of the 3x3 since last years holiday season. I picked it up this morning and started playing around with it.

I started on the centers. I now have all centers in the right spot and completed as well as all edges. The only thing that I don't have completed is the corners on both the top and bottom layer. Only one is actually posistioned correctly. Is there any algorithms to actually swap the corners without messing up the rest of the cube?

E and A perms???

Maybe you should take a picture of it and post it here. I don't really get the situation.

So you are doing a edges first method? If you already have all the edges in place, it should be the same as your 3x3 method (assuming you do edges first).

A diagram of some sort of more details on the position of the cube would be helpful.

Thanks for the quick replies and sorry for the poor description.

Basically the cube is completely solved except all corners.

I believe if I use the method I did with the 3x3 cube to change the corners it will screw up the edges. Unfortunately I'm at work so I can't take a picture to upload. I just wanted to ask before I screw up everything by making another move. :(

Sorry, I don't know the name of the method I use to solve the 3x3. Can I get some algorithms for actually swapping the corners then and I'll give that a try?

Sorry for all the trouble. I would list the steps I use to show how I swap corners on my 3x3 but I actually forget. I'm sure I would remember if I had my 3x3 here to goof around on but it is home and I have the worst memory ever.

EDIT: Might help to let you know what I do when I solve the 3x3.

Create Cross
Complete first layer
Complete second layer
Complete third layer finishing the cube by completing the corners.

And how do you solve the edges of the 4x4?

Well I haven't followed anything for the 4x4 so if I remember correctly what I did was solved two oposite ends then I lined up 2x1 edges over and over until all the pieces were 2x1's. Then I played around until I posistioned all the 2x1 edge pieces so what I'm left with now is a cube that has every piece in the right spot except for all the corners.

The following website shows a cube that is solved expect all the corners are in the wrong place. I think he mentions something like Ultimate Corner Solution or something like that but I have no idea what he is talking about.

I wish I was home so I could take a picture. Doesn't help that I'm terrible at explaining things and I'm certainly no expert at Rubik's cubes.

Also thank you very much for the help you are providing.

Just thought, I think what I may be missing here is that I should now be solving the 4x4 as if I would solve a 3x3. Not sure how to go from here though. :(

I think I have to ask this again:

I believe if I use the method I did with the 3x3 cube to change the corners it will screw up the edges.
Why?

I think I might have something backwards. I think I may be trying to solve the edges before the corners which is causing the problems. I looked for a pic online of what my cube looks like now but no luck. I'll have to post pictures when I get home.

If you turn the outer layers only, it's just like a 3x3.

Just solved it. My last post was correct. I was just a bit confused with my steps. Once I stopped worrying about aligning the edges and treated the 4x4 as a 3x3 I had no problems solving the cube. I never ran into parity issues either. Lucky me.

Cheers all.
