Am i ready for competitions? i am averaging in the high 40's with the beginners method and I am having trouble transitioning to the fridrich method (can do it in about a minute twenty) totally intuitively. Thanks guys, and and comps near the Albany NY area?

I always thought competitions were to have a good time and meet fellow cubers. Just like ExoCorsair said you really can't be too slow for competitions.

I have never been to one but I would imagine going would make you better because you meet all these great people that are fast and it might give you motivation to try a little harder and you would improve quickly.

Actually, I slightly disagree with Exo here. If you can't solve the cube in less than 10 minutes, you're probably too slow to enter competitions. :) But if you can do it in less than 10 minutes, you're not too slow. So you definitely have nothing to worry about.

I'm still hoping I can talk my wife into entering the Virginia Open, and she had an average last week in our online competition of seven and a half minutes! But I must admit that I'm hoping she will be better than that by then. I'm hoping she can beat 4 minutes by then. (I want to enter competition times for this category: http://www.speedcubing.com/records/recs_fun_husbandwife.html.)

I'm going to address the other part of you're question. There will be a competition at Cornell in the spring (from what I'm told from the members of the cube club there). Ithaca is relatively close to Albany from what I can remember. You should definitely come, and you will probably be better by then too.

Although you are solving the cube at 1 min 20 secs w/ fridrich method now, with practice you'll get used to it and soon be sub 1 min. I started on September 21st this year and now my average with fridrich is sub 35.
