Algs to rotate centers?

Hey all,

Since my family knows of my recent addiction to cubing, they bought me a NY Giants themed cube for X-mas. I've only solved it a handful of times, but since there are now pictures on the faces instead of just colors, I am faced with a new problem. Simply solving it ensures that all of the corners and the edges are in the correct orientation, but how can I fix centers? I can take care of all but two of them with careful planning, but those last two have my head spinning. Any thoughts?

Assuming it is a "normally" structured Rubik's cube, the centre pieces should be fixed, they cannot be moved at all. You have to adjust the other pieces to fix it.

I have the same problem with my bears cube but my friend likes do the thing where all the pieces are solved except the centers and then fixes the cube and I noticed he fixed the centers when doing that. Tomorrow I might ask him what he did because I dont remember it.

hmmm do the cross http://cubewhiz.com/images/pll/pll05.gif PLL and 3 cycle to fix again, you will turn D center 180°
others you will have to try, but i once wondered about that, because of the logo on the white side which was first rotate right blue bottom, now red bottom....

Edit: 90° bottom and perhaps other sides (didn't tried) with http://cubewhiz.com/images/pll/pll04.gif N?? then 3-cycle again

They can rotate actually.

When i put my stickers on i had green on top and White on F. The middle white sticker is the cube smith logo. And i did it so its straight. Then i scrambled and solve. This time the logo is turned sideways.

Try the following on a solved cube...

Center Pattern:
(M E M' E')

Four Centers Pattern:
(U' r B R')*6

Rotate all centers a quarter turn anti-clockwise:
(M E M' E') x' (M E M' E') z ((U' r B R')*6)

I think I know what state your cube is in but I can't wrap my mind around an algorithm on a standard cube as I can't really see how the orientation of each center is being affected on this one. :-/

I'm sure you can solve it by doing the first two algorithms mentioned above and throwing in some x or z movements after each alg. :-)

Tim.

Thanks guys, now it's actually easier to just fix all of the centers at the end, rather than try to do it as I go along.

You can place D, R, F, L and B centres while building the cross.

Most F2L moves does not destroy any of them, some LL algs does, use "secure" algs like Sune and such.

In the end you will have U centre solved or 180 degress oriented.

BTW, you cant say "I'm using two T-PLL's..." It depends on the alg, wich faces does it affect and how?, two diffrent T-PLL's does diffrent things to centres.

What Kenneth and Masterofthebass said. You should have little trouble orienting the bottom center and side centers as you build the cross and do F2L. Your last layer algorithms usually should not mess up a side center by 90 degrees. 180 degrees is okay. As Masterofthebass says, (LRUL'R'U2)*2 is a way to do nothing more than rotate a center by 180 degrees.

Hi :-)

Check out this very old yahoo speedcubing thread

Per :)

(edit)

These algs have old notation tokens:

Us = U D' (s=slice)
U's = U' D

Ua = U D (a = antislice)
U'a = U' D'

Similar for other axes of course. I love this old notation. Too bad it slipped out of the core 3x3x3 notation ...

Plus, U perm rotates the R center.

This surely depends on what U-perm alg is performed :confused: But the fact remains that any purely center turning alg has the net effect of 0 or 2 modulo 4. 1 or 3 remains impossible. A proof of this is not so hard, but is beside the point ;-)

Basically, these 'team' cubes are just Shepherd's cubes with fancier stickers, right? I just got my Shepherd stickers yesterday (aren't even on my cube yet. I'm glad I found this thread.
