acrystal Progression Thread |Lock in for 4x4, 3BLD, OH, Mega|

I would say being ambidextrous is superior, but I am not quite there yet and cannot prove it. But it does feel more efficient for what I am for now!
I’ve heard that a problem with using lefty and righty moves in a solve is that you have to do a mini regrip.

Basically, since (in home grip) your left thumb is holding the M layer (so your right hand doesn’t accidentally do r), you’re gonna have to move your left thumb off the M layer, and move your right thumb on to it (so your left hand can’t accidentally do l). Because of this regrip:
  • Algs that switch between lefty and righty moves are rarely optimal
  • Unless you’re not in home grip before encountering a specific case, lefty algs are usually not worth it.
Maybe before the solve you could choose whether or not your solution will be righty move dominant. (I haven’t tried this myself, I’m not ambidextrous)

Sorry if the writing in this post sounds awkward

Perfectly fine bro!
I find that placing either thumb on the gaps instead of the actual pieces itself is a bit more ideal. I favor righty still, but not thumbing the actual pieces allows them to just "flip" past them. No regripping needed.

some advice: don’t replace algs with lefty algs just because you want to be “ambidextrous”. It’s not a good way to do it, instead try doing lefty drills like LU-gen scrambles. Being lefty is good for F2L, where you can have many cases where the lefty alg can influence a free pair, and so on. Even then, you should be fluent with both, but don’t fully switch algs. It’s better to be fluent at both, but use your dominant hand more. I would divide it like this: 40/60 where 40 = left hand use and 60 = right hand use.
actually that’s wrong
it should be 20/80
I could have swore i used a good amount of lefty moves lol

L moves can be done like r. So an L’ can be done like r’. I personally use a mix of both, and it’s been fine. Xuanyi and Yiheng show that you can spam lefty moves and righty moves fine, but the catch is that they know what’s worth it or not. They will do lefty solutions when it benefits for the rest of the solve, and vice versa. Like let’s say you have diag pairs solved, then you have a pair in UFL that can be solved with righty or lefty moves. So you can either do y then lefty alg, or do y’ then righty alg. Which one seems better?

Ok but the truth is, many algs are just RUL gen, so they convert to RUL gen again anyway

What source are you learning algs from 😨

Bookmarking this! I have looked so hard to find things like this I literally gave up
Thank for this bro!!!!!

Hello guys,
I have decided to remove the "6 months thing" as I have not been following this weekly, so its now a regular progression thread.
I have broken new PBs, so time to update my accomplishments. And I'm going to my 4th comp:
See you with my new PBs!

I found a way to practice for my comp, and its very helpful and doesn't get effected by procrastination. I'm planning to focus on 1 cube per day, that also as little as possible, so here's my practice blueprint.
  • Every 8 days, i will do a 3x3 mo60, 2x2 mo100, 4x4 mo20, 5x5 mo10, OH mo30, pyra mo100, skewb mo100, and mega mo10.
  • Depending on what day I am supposed to make a mean on, I will bring that cube to school (if there is), and I will work on doing slow solves.
  • I will also be very active on example solve threads for analyzing better.
In total there is 35 days before the comp starts, so I get to do 4 sessions. With the 3 extra days, I will focus on all puzzles, mostly on clock (if im competing in it)

Congrates, you are so close to sub-20 ao12 on 3x3, and sub-minute singe on 4x4
