Hello all!

I am Jeffrey and I am eighteen years old. I live in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, and I like cubing very much. It's my favourite hobby. I should note, however, that I do not speedsolve cubes. I know this is a forum dedicated to speedsolving cubes, but there are no other cube forums out there with a vast community like this, so I joined this forum. I hope non-speedcubers are welcome here too! :D

I used to be a speedcuber back in the day, but I suddenly got a severe illness that is hard to get rid off. Certain types of food and beverages can make the illness worse, and so does working myself into a lather, which is what I always do when I have to better myself, which is the case with speedcubing, so I was kind of forced to stop speedcubing but I discovered that normal solving has its own benefits too.

Solving the cube without timing myself puts me into a restful state time and time again, it's something that is hard to describe but it boils down to the fact that I feel very calm by just solving the cube without worrying about times or anything else.

A little about what I've done so far: Up until now, I've been solving the Pocket Cube, the regular Rubik's cube, the Rubik's Revenge cube, the Rubik's professor cube and the Megaminx. In the future, I'm planning to buy a Square-1 and 2, a Pyraminx, and a V-Cube 6 and 7, but that's for the future. For now, I'm enjoying the cubes I already have.

I hope to have a great time here!

Greetings from Little Rock

I'd get rid of the Revenge and Professor cube if you don't want to get too flustered, lol. Get one of the nicer brands, you should enjoy them FAR more.

Nice to know that people actually solve for peace of mind. :D Every cuber is welcome on this forum. You might also want to try the mirror block / bump cube.

Yeah, I like it even better than when I used to solve it only for speed. I didn't realize it can be this calming. Back in the day, I used to listen to music to calm down but cubing has now replaced that (or sometimes a combination of the two). I'm going to learn more about the cubes you mentioned, thanks for the suggestion. :D

you should try rubiks magic. for me that is the most calming, simple, and fun one to solve over and over.

That one is on my list too, and maybe even Rubik's snake, it looks kind of fun too. :) I forgot to include in my previous post that I also solve the Rubik's clock. I forgot it cause I no longer solve it too much, because I truly hate the way I have to scramble it. :( I just solve it once in a week or so to ensure that I don't forget hów to solve it.

Well, I thought the name Revenge and Professor simply stood for 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 respectively, but I'm wrong, I now see they're the name of the Rubik's brand cubes. :p My 4x4x4 is a QJ Mini and my 5x5x5 is an YJ cube.

I read a lot of posts on this and other forums about people who bought bigger cubes of the Rubik's brand such as the 4 and 5, and they broke after a week or even on the day they bought it, so I decided not to buy them.

The only Rubik's brand I have is my 3x3x3 which got me into the magic world of cubing. :) It has seen better days though, the green side is now black (the green stickers were too messed up - they became white - that I just had to remove them), I replaced two red stickers with homemade stickers, and the rest is starting to peel too. :p

But as for the rest, it still is alive and kicking. I'm truly attached to it. It has traveled everywhere with me to the strangest places and it still is, it's the cube that started my new hobby. :D

I hate scrambling clocks too. :p

And also, Square-2? I'm pretty sure that's a rare puzzle. Get more basic stuff like Magic, Master Magic, Snake etc.

So, welcome to speedsovling.com. :)

I believe you can get square-2 on speedcubeshop.com.

One thing you could try is FMC. FMC (short for Fewest Moves Challenge) is an event that pits you against the cube in how few of moves you can take to solve it. Personally, I quite fail at it, but you can talk to anyone in the FMC thread (using the search function, which is recommend all users use) and they'll help you along. I was personally helped along by them.

Other things to take into consideration are (as they have been stated) magic, clock, and master magic. These puzzles are fun to solve over and over and don't require you to have speed. It's simply fun to solve over and over with magics (not that I would know, considering magics kill themselves in my hands), and clock is all about optimality, the way I see it.

anyway, welcome to the forums! =D
