Just wondering, if you haven't done edge control do you prefer to do parity to set up a the line, the L shape, or no preference?

You're talking about the 3-flipped-edges case, right? I use B' R' and the normal alg to flip all three edges.

OMG that's awesome. You're my big cubes hero qq.

On topic: I prefer to put it into a line shape because if I change it to an L shape then I could get some nasty cases like OLL 47, OLL 49, OLL 50, OLL 11, OLL 12, and the worst of all, OLL 29 and OLL 30.

But it takes me like 0.5-1 second slower on the normal alg then on the more fingertrick friendly alg to execute..and B' R' (and undo B' R') itself takes time so it might just balance out

I didn't realize the trick qq mentioned was so little known. I mean, I use it and I hardly ever solve a 4x4. I don't remember who taught it to me, but I thought it was common knowledge. lol.

It depends on the case I get. I normally do the OLL parity alg or double parity alg and get an OLL case which would take 10 moves or less to solve. I would only use B' R' (OLL parity alg) R B if I get that case (R U B U' B' R' + front edge flipped).

For every case, you can always do the OLL parity or double parity alg and get a reasonably nice OLL case which would take 10 moves or less to solve.

Reasonably nice OLL cases which can be reached after doing OLL parity or double parity alg: 5 6 7 8 (9 or 10) 28 31 32 33 37 39 40 43 44 45 46 47 48 (There are some in the list which can also be avoided but you may have to do the double parity alg instead of the OLL parity alg which you may not prefer)
