I'm learning how to do 6-pair on 4x4x4 from Dan Harris's cubestation website. My problem is this- I make 3 pairs with a slice, store them in U by doing R U R', making sure I don't kick out an existing edge. I make 3 more by slicing back. I store 1 in U and 2 in D. I make two more with a slice, but when I store the second one in D, I can't seem to not kick one out

I don't think it is always possible to do 6 edges, then finish the next 6.
Also I don't think of it as storing pieces, LOL.

I just make the 3 pairs, and take out one of the solved pairs in the M slice ( or E slice in your case) for an unsolved edge that matches with the unsolved one left in the E slice. Then I just set the up from there.
I do 6 pairing once, then finish with 2 pairing.
2 pairing seems to be more consistent. I occasionally get very bad case with 6 pairing when I have a whole bunch of 2 swaps.
