I’m new to this, I am no speedster at all, my PB after 1 month of cubing is 49s, my son and I starting together a month ago. He has a PB of 10,1. I am trying to convince my son to keep practicing and start competing.

I’m curious what the PB times for members at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months are....

10/03/2018 - 14:27.3 (first ever solve)
17/05/2018 - 01:05.4
10/06/2018 - 24.36
16/09/2018 - 15.03
08/12/2018 - 12.49
26/01/2019 - 10.43

PB isn't a very good indicator of progress because it's largely luck-based. What you should be looking at is average - I think I was averaging sub-30 3 months in, sub-25 6 months in, sub-20 9 months in and am currently averaging around 17 seconds. I practice 1-2 hours a day - sometimes less, but never more.

That makes perfect sense, I agree totally on the luck part. btw, my 49s is well below my Ao5 of 1:17 and Ao12 of 1:24

The problem is I guess most people won’t remember their ave times at the 1,3,6,12 month splits but if they do, I be very interested to see them.

There will be a number of people who have their average times stored like that, who use computer timers that store histories going back forever. That's probably how Billabob had it.

By the way, Billabob's improvement is really fast - I suspect there are very few people who improve quite that fast.

Estimations, can't remember actual times
1 month: 46 or so
3 months: most likely still 46, didn't practice too much
6 months: Still didn't practice that much, around low 40
12 months: Had a month of intense practice and learnt F2L and 4LLL, around 27
After 4 years of cubing i'm sitting at PB single of 14.10 and averaging around sub-20, nearing sub-19.

I just want to be clear - when people refer to their average - are they referring to their Ao5 or Ao12 or Ao100 time or is it actually the average of all their solves to date?

I hope this makes sense...

People have different definitons of averages and subX

I think Ao250 is good enough whereas some people think its Ao1000

Ao1000 imo youre still improving especially couple months in
