Today I received a package from Doc. When I opened it, I found a Rubik's Cube lit up with Black & Red LEDs. The attached letter read, "Dear friend, I have a Christmas present for you. It's a new 3D Reversi game. Please contact me when you receive it. I'll play the cube with you while I'm on vacation in the future world."

When I examined the cube, it looked like a regular 3D Reversi, but while regular Reversi is played by attaching black and white pieces to each side of the cube, I discovered that this cube uses a different method of play, as described below.

1. Starting piece placement

2. Players A and B take turns rotating each slice, similar to turning a Rubik's Cube. Players cannot skip a turn even if they are unable to sandwich the opponent's color.

3. Players cannot rotate the slice that their opponent just rotated.

4. If Player A rotates a slice and then sandwiches a piece of Player B's color with Player A's color, the color of Player B's sandwiched piece will change to Player A's color.

5. The stickers that are sandwiched and flipped in color are the stickers on the pieces in the row adjacent to the slice rotated by the player, located perpendicular to the slice surface.

- If an outer slice is rotated (U, D, F, B, R, L), a total of 12 stickers on the adjacent middle slice are targeted.

- If an middle slice is rotated (M, S, E), a total of 24 stickers on the slices on both sides are targeted.

- The color of the stickers does not change even if the slice is sandwiched vertically or diagonally toward the cube.

6. In normal Reversi, multiple consecutive pieces of the same color can be flipped at once, but in this cube, only one sticker is sandwiched between two pieces.

7. If the sandwiched sticker is empty, it changes to the color of the player who moved the slice.

8. The game ends when all the stickers are filled, and the player with the most stickers wins.

Let's see some examples.

Example 1: Black R move → Red U2 move

At first it seemed complicated, but since there are no diagonal sandwiches like in regular Reversi and you only need to pay attention to the pieces perpendicular to the surface you are slicing, I got used to it after a while.

I think it's about time to contact Doc…
