This isn't the first thread about this on the forums, but I wanted to revisit this topic to see where I should improve in 3BLD.

I memo edges first with pairs and bad but fast memo. Then audio for corners.

For exec, I execute corners first with OP(with some cancellations) but for twists I still shoot to both sides of the twist and use 2 algs to solve one twist.

If I have parity, I simply add ADA to the front of my edge memo. So my parity alg is M2 L U' L' U M2 U' L U L' M2.

Then for edges, I use M2, with wide moves for all side targets. I also setup edge flips to a 1LLL, unless both sides of the flip are good M2 cases.

My memo(when I am going fast) is typically around 20 seconds, and my fastest ever memo is 13s. My exec is typically around 45s, and my fastest ever exec is 26s(unfortunately with 25s memo).

Are these normal splits for a 1:05 solver, and what should I improve? Tips would be appreciated!

Also as a 13 year old who mains BLD, I've noticed people who do BLD are often older(of course with exceptions), is this the case and is there a reason?

I know that was a very long post, but I had some questions so it would be great if I could get some advice. Thanks!

Memo corners with pairs first, then edges (should be possible with audio, since you already do corners audio and it's not that much harder). More audio = faster memo yay

If you end up memoing corners first, execute edges first. I highly recommend orozco. It's not that hard if you understand comms, it's far better than OP and it sets you up for implementing 3-style algs into your solves when possible

You seem to setup B and D as R' U R U and L U' L' U respectively. R U R' U' and L' U' L U have much better flow in my opinion. Also, wouldn't D' L2 D M2 D' L2 D do the same thing?
Then for edges, I use M2, with wide moves for all side targets. I also setup edge flips to a 1LLL, unless both sides of the flip are good M2 cases.
Keep doing M2, I'm not sure about the edge flips but I also always forget all my flip algs so I can't really criticise.

idk but if you don't one-pass yet then do that

No idea, I did 7BLD at age 14 though

Thanks for the reply! I don't know how to reply to each part of the post separately so I'll just have to post as one.

OK I'll try edges with audio, I just always felt like it would decrease my already horrible success rate.

I'll also learn Orozco. I think it will be slower for a while, as I suck at RUD moves and OP has very high TPS. But I think it'll be an important transition to 3-style.

I didn't know you could do those setups for B and D and that parity alg, I'll try those for sure.

I already one-pass, so that's good.

7BLD at 14 is absolutely insane what the heck??? I need to learn 4BLD now 🤣

Your memo and exec splits seem normal.

The reason older people do BLD more as it requires systematic planning to get good in it:
  • Good algsheets
  • Good drilling
  • Good vocab for pre-defined letter pairs
  • Good fingertricks
  • Creativity to deal with float and parity

Other events have this too, but the need to classify is more in BLD events.
