Sometimes I wonder why the 3x3 WF event has that format of 'Mean of 3', besides having 'Average of 5'.

I was looking for some discussions and I found this: http://www.worldcubeassociation.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=498 at the WCA forum. As this forum here seems to be more active, I decided to discuss it here.

That´s terrible for those who like the WF having an average like that where you can´t make any mistake or your average is ruined...

I´m from Brazil and I was the first brazilian guy to try it in a competition. The next competition we were 2 (me and a girl!) doing the WF. The next one, there were four and in the next competition we have next week there are 4 people registered, but the present second place in national rank won´t be there. Each year more people are trying to do it and thinking it´s too much fun! That´s why we cube, isn´t it?

I´ve been in local TV 3 times and twice I was called because I solve the cube with feet. At least I think it is good for spreading the rubik´s cube, calling everybody´s attention.

Although people are discussing if we should remove WF from the official competitions, I come here to try to maintain this and even try to make the official format being 'Average of 5'.

Is it possible? :)

Then take it to the WCA forum, which is exactly the place for that.

Even if you'll get little support, you should have a right to present an argument for an event you care about - one the WCA can properly take into consideration.

I hate the feet event , special at the Summer time .....

At Czech Open 2009 , me and Rama run away to go out side before this event started.

I really hope 1 day all events will be average of 5, dropping highest and lowest. It has happened for Clock and Square-1 and I hope it will happen for MegaMinx next year. I also hope it will happen for bigcubes (6 and 7) when people get faster. And I even hope it will happen for blindfolded.

....but feet is a media event in my opinion. Most people I know that do it are doing it for prizes and don't like doing it. This is the first time I hear about making it average of 5 and I really hope it doesn't become that while so few people take it seriously

Feet discussions seem to always go to goofy/disgusting debate. At Swedish CubeDay 2007 I failed at the first solve and didn't bother doing the rest, because I knew my mean would be DNF anyway. That's too harsh IMO.

LOLOLOLOLOL Luckyily we dont really have anyonne Down Under who does this!

Depends on your definition of "Down Under":

Rubik's Cube: With feet New Zealand 100 Persons

Rank Person Result Citizen of Competition
1 Dene Beardsley 1:35.80 New Zealand Ohio Open 2009

Oh look I get special mention! (Wooo to Mr. Hughey!!!!)

Although I maintain that I don't think feet should be an official event, I agree with Mr. van Galen that all events should be average of 5.

I can never understand how people can do it with the feet. It is mind-boggling.

No, it's not mind-boggling, it's just practice. Try it sometime. At first, you'll find that you have trouble turning it, but after a few minutes, you'll find it's not so bad. Make sure you have bare feet (no socks), and put the cube on a stackmat - it's much easier there than on the bare floor (unless you have carpet). Then, you'll find yourself having "feet amnesia" on your algorithms - it's much like OH amnesia, only worse. But if you do 5 solves a week, you'll find yourself sub-2 like me with ease, I'm sure.

It's really not all that different from OH solving - it's just carried to a greater extreme.

You can fail at the first solve without DNF-ing. If you decide to stop the timer with an unsolved cube you deserve the DNF-average in my opinion.

On my one attempt at an average, I apparently stopped the timer accidentally in mid-solve. (And it was the best solve of the three, too - probably sub-2! :() It's rather easy to do with feet. For me that's what's really harsh. But oh well - I'll just wait 3 years or so for the next chance to do feet solving in the US. :)

I do not no any WCA delegate that sheers the feet event, it is also my view it is a media event.....

I know at least one:
http://www.worldcubeassociation.org/results/p.php?i=2007CINO01
http://www.worldcubeassociation.org/results/c.php?i=UnivercidadeOpen2009

If we look at the 3x3 WF single rankings, there are 123 people there and at least 75 have competed this year because their records are from 2009, so I could at least suppose that the event is still getting attention.

Well, if it's just a media event, it shouldn't have become official in the first place.

Eh , I wrote this is my view ...This is not WCA board statement .... I do not know the exact reason why feet is an official event.

I think you can blame Anders for that. Some Canadian journalist called him just before the WC 2003 for an interwiew. And unfortunately(?) Anders happened to say: :"I have even done it with my feet". And that way(?) it became an official event.
