Sooo in March I decided to take on a challenge of attempting to complete a 7x7 ao1000 on CSTimer. Yesterday, September 2nd 2024, I completed it after some breaks and dilly-dallying.
Before I started this, I was averaging 3:30+ on 7x7 and my best solve was probably 3:14, my comp PR (at the time). However, as I kept solving, my times went down and I managed to get a single of 2:43, which is PB at the time.

Now, while doing this, I learned a lot of things. I got to do some amazing things. I even got to talk to some world class cubers about this topic, some you may have never even heard of before.
This isn’t an amazing goal as like 10000 solves (which I will be attempting to complete before June 2025). However, I made so much progress that it’s amazing to me.
I talked with a bunch of cubers on the Big Cubers discord server, and @Mark Zimmermann gave some really good advice on a critique that he did for me. I also got some advice from other people as well.
I also managed to get a 3:01 mo3 at CubingUSA Northwest Champs, where I got to meet Kevin Hays and Matty, two of the best big cube solvers in the world. I talked to Kevin about last four edges, and Matty gave some really good advice on progressing in general. I try to implement what they said into my solves, although I’m not perfect with it because I’m human after all.
Now, I’ve done some extra research on how to practice big cubes, and a guide by Aryan Kejrwhal, and I’ve started to implement this idea into solves. Basically, a solve consists of efficiency, selection, and fluidity. Efficiency is the knowledge of the cube, selection is knowing what to do, and fluidity is TPS and lookahead, plus lockups and pops. You need a good balance of each to provide the best solve possible. I’m still working on the notes, but you can check them out here:

Now, while doing this, I learned a lot of things. I got to do some amazing things. I even got to talk to some world class cubers about this topic, some you may have never even heard of before.
This isn’t an amazing goal as like 10000 solves (which I will be attempting to complete before June 2025). However, I made so much progress that it’s amazing to me.
I talked with a bunch of cubers on the Big Cubers discord server, and @Mark Zimmermann gave some really good advice on a critique that he did for me. I also got some advice from other people as well.
I also managed to get a 3:01 mo3 at CubingUSA Northwest Champs, where I got to meet Kevin Hays and Matty, two of the best big cube solvers in the world. I talked to Kevin about last four edges, and Matty gave some really good advice on progressing in general. I try to implement what they said into my solves, although I’m not perfect with it because I’m human after all.
Now, I’ve done some extra research on how to practice big cubes, and a guide by Aryan Kejrwhal, and I’ve started to implement this idea into solves. Basically, a solve consists of efficiency, selection, and fluidity. Efficiency is the knowledge of the cube, selection is knowing what to do, and fluidity is TPS and lookahead, plus lockups and pops. You need a good balance of each to provide the best solve possible. I’m still working on the notes, but you can check them out here:
