I want to shave a few sec of my time.

Do the only thing you can: practise. Practise may involve learning more algorithms, working on OLL/PLL, or working on finger tricks. Just practise everything.

If a few seconds equals 18 seconds than I am but a few seconds off the world record.:)

I agree with shelley....list off your method and you might get some better instructions other than practice practice pratice.

Like I said I'm not to familiar with the difrent mothods but when I am done with the top face and the 2 rows I complet the bottom cross, then the botom face, I move the corners to their position, and finish buy moving the the cross pieces 2 the right place, one thing I never turn the cube upside down I keep my original first color at the top all the time.

For starters, do turn your cube "upside down." You'll want to get used to it if you want to get faster.

Learn to do the first two layers together (solve a first layer corner and its adjacent middle layer edge simultaneously) if you haven't already. Last layer algorithms that let you accomplish more in one step would also be helpful to learn at this point.

Its so weird though, whenever someone wants to get better people respond with "Practice".
Looking back on my old threads asking for help, I wanted to know a trick or something on how get a little faster.
But, as I look back on my improvement, and what I did, all I needed was practice.

You're young, so it's good that you learn your lesson now, Daniel! Things never come easy in life. Practise is extremely important in everything that you will do.

lol thanks but not that young I have been doing the cube 4 over 20 years
but you are right I have 2 change my form and practice maybe an old dog can learn new tricks.

If you want to shave a few seconds of your time follow these steps:

1. You will need shaving cream and a razor
2. Apply the shaving cream into the cube
3. Use the razor to get the shaving cream off

If you follow these easy steps, your times will be faster.

P.S. I meant the part up there as a joke, but if you really want faster times, practice on the part that takes the longest. Or, you should try to learn some F2L. Then you can learn a 3-look last layer. I hope this helped.

Hello I just joined the group my best time on the 3x3x3 is 48 sec. I wish to cut it down to 30 can anyone help me.
What type of stuff have you looked at so far? Many people have asked this question. What method are you using? How much have you practiced? Take a look at the other threads and let me know if you need further tips. Good luck.

How to become fast using the Fridrich Method

Learn these algorithms of the Fridrich Method

  1. Learn F2L intuitively
  2. Then learn all OLLs that had the incross ( 2-Look OLL) - 7 Algorithms
  3. Then learn all PLLs. First start with edge and corner cycles - 21 algorithms
  4. Then, after you learn intutive F2L, learn F2L. Getting fast at this will increase your times tremedously - 42 Algorithms
  5. Try to average cross in 2 seconds and do it on the bottom

Fridrich Method = CFOP System - Most popular speedcubing method in the world
Cross
F2L = First Two Layers
OLL = Orienting Last Layer
PLL = Permuting Last Layer

I would change this.

Learn all F2L first (intuitively). I think cramming algorithms wuold be useless unless you were already comfortable with the basics.
Second learn all the PLL's.
Third learn all the OLL's.

I had been a very casual cuber since 1980 and was usually around a minute until I learned the Fridrich method with Burton Oll's and Pll's. With some efforts in learning the new algo's, doing the cube upside down, and doing the F2L I am easily under 30 seconds average now (with some very low 20's in there) and still improving weekly. Old dog and all, it is very hard not to improve your times learning these methods.

As to the arguement of learning the 2FL algos versus intuitive, I learned all the Fridrich algos while doing the cross on top with lots of efforts but switching the cross to the bottom and learning them intiutively took very little time to surpass the previous 2FL times. It is just way easier to see ahead and make very easy insertions.

What i do is i stress the importance of practice. I haven't really been practicing lately but what i did in order to get around 30 seconds in less than 3 months was each week i focused on one major factor of my solve. For example, week one would be focusing on solely cross and I would only do a few solves that week while practicing cross a lot. Then i repeated the cycle the next week with F2L or some other part of my solve. At the same time, i learned a PLL every few days.
