    SMART-CUBE - LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 self-solving Rubik's Cube

Here is a creation that I conceived about 10 years ago and for which I created many prototypes. I only succeeded in realising it recently after tempting my great friend Mike Dobson (co-designer of CubeStormers II and 3) to work on the project with me for the last two years. Enjoy! :-)

    Cube machine for sale?

You can build your own EV3 version of MindCub3r from a single LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 set 31313. The build instructions and software are freely available from mindcuber.com The latest version of the MindCub3r software v2p1 includes a scramble option that uses a random cube state (rather than random...

[Unofficial] The fastest cube machine for 4x4x4

Cool - I have some competition at last lol Congratulations! I love your "3-axis MultiCuber" design - Mike and I discussed a mechanism like this several years ago but we never got around to trying it ;-) BTW I have been demonstrating MultiCub3r-X, a successor to Quad-Cub3r, at various events...

White Cross Without Down, Back, Slice Moves Or Turning

I would be curious to know why you couldn't get MindCub3r to work? Did you ask for help on the MindCuber facebook page?

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Thanks. Which do you think would be more interesting? A robot with sub 26 time following "WCA human rules" with stackmat and cube pick-up/release, or one with a sub 26 time for a complete solve including inspection (but without stackmat or cube pick-up/release)? I think you may be assuming...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Thanks for the invitation. But if you offer a human vs. robot competition, I'd rather propose a blindfold one (since the robot only looks at the cube before the mechanical solve) as I can easily make a mechanism to use a stackmat timer and pick up and release the cube in the remaining 90 seconds...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Thanks for the cube suggestions and motor driver tips. However, I wish to use only standard, off-the shelf LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 and technic technology for the mechanical portion my creations (as I am a huge LEGO fan). The motors are servos with optical shaft encoder feedback rather than...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Thanks. "approaching humans"?!? So just how many humans do you know who average under sub 28 *including inspection* (or sub 26 without)? lol Actually, if I bring it to a competition do you think some of the human speedcubers would scramble for Quad-Cub3r? ;) I do know one "pro 4x4x4...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

How about these? ;) The video was taken at its first public event, LEGO World 2016 in Copenhagen only a few days after it solved its first cube. I have now had time to start optimising some of the mechanical movements (with the help of a 240 fps smartphone camera to see how everything moves)...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Thanks. Most of the time is spent tilting the cube rather than turning the layers so a lighter cube with less mass would probably help more than a smoother one! :)

I mean that there are likely to be further developments but you will have to wait and see! In short, "hopefully, yes" ;)

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Thanks. I am glad you like the edge pairing. The algorithm chooses groups of edges to pair based on cycles of edges and leaves the resulting dedges wherever is the fewest moves. It attempts to solve the groups in different orders to find the combination with the shortest solution overall. The...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

Edge parity is fixed while solving the centres by having two strategies for solving the final phase (of four) with either odd or even parity sequences. The corner parity is checked after pairing the edges and those solutions with odd parity disregarded. So both types of parity are resolved...

    [Unofficial] Robot 37.61 4x4x4 UWR

The algorithm finds many "good" centre solutions (with fixed edge parity) from each of 24 orientations. It does not specifically aim to pair a few dedges during this phase but does use this metric to influence whether to discard the solution attempt early in order to try more in the time...
