ZZ brag (unrelated tips appreciated!)

do NOT learn any algs. you should be able to find the most efficient solution for even the weirdest blocks by yourself. Even the weirdest blocks are not as weird as some F2L inserts, because you always go by the easiest block.
Go through walkthrough solves (asmallkitten has some neat ZZ material on youtube, i have done german walkthroughs which probably wont help you as much, and there are many written reconstructions in the example solve and reconstruction thread on the forums) and practice via slowturning. I would say Blockbuilding without pauses at a decent speed is slightly harder than CFOP F2L, due to the fact that you dont have to think as much while performing some F2L inserts. That might just be me tho, im a scrub at cfop.

To thatboy, it's not as hard as you'd think! Once you get the hang of learning and reviewing algs, it gets easy! However I can see how one competition looks odd.

How does your algorithm learning process go? I'm sure you have a system after learning that many, share it :)

To Robert Y, no problem! If i am as fast as you guys think, I understand the skepticism. Which cases in particular? I found a bunch with a sim that I created in second year computer sci and a bunch from different places online.

And Petroleum, do you think I should learn any algs ? or is it just pure intuition (for weird block cases I mean)
The skepticism is simply because the times you claim are ridiculously fast. It automatically looks suspicious because you're basically new here, only been to one comp, and yeah haha.

For sure! Often in the lazy mornings before class, when I was hanging around in my dorm, I'd google a few new cases (1-3, depending on how hard I found them). I'd play with them for a bit (5-10 drills, decide if i like it, if not-find and alternative alg) and then I'd write them out on my white board (used as a calendar, or so my parents intended haha). Nothing artistic, just a 3x3 grid with edge cycles/swaps and corner cycles / swaps. I'd do a bunch of solves (20 mins ish) just reviewing random cases whenever they came up, drill the alg some more, and then just keep going back and forth (looking up to my board whenever i couldn't remember a part of an alg, which happened a lot when i first started but occurred less and less as I learned more)) between solving and drills. When I drilled the algs, I would just do them over and over until I felt comfortable, and then went back to normal solving. Often when solving I'd have to look back to previous algs I'd learned already. When I went to class, I'd bring a cube with me and sit at the back of class. I'd take notes and what not, but during the more boring/homework review time of class, I'd do solves and practice the algs I'd learned (that week, or random ones i wasn't very strong with). As I learned more, they became easier to learn and harder to remember. The key is practice haha. Lots of it. Hope this made sense!

I understand haha :) I enjoy cubing and the competition that I went to made me not want to compete anymore. I just learned most of the cubing **** on my own, disconnected from this forum (sadly, I probably could be much better had I collaborated with you guys here!)

Any of these would be great. I'd ideally like to see ALL of your algorithms, but I'm more interested in cases for now :p

Jealous? ;) It is probably true considering that he has been here for 4 years even if he wasn't active. I am not as fast as him but I have also only gone to one competition because there are none in my area, so that could be the case for him!

Yeah! It makes sense, and I've actually been looking into ZBLL myself for a while but never got around to it. I might actually begin learning it starting with COLL. anyway, it sucks you had a bad experience at your first comp, most aren't like that!

You wouldn't need ZBLL if you learned COLL though...

wat. i have a feeling you didnt quite grasp the concept of ZBLL.

Also, i feel like Cubing itself is a very lonely hobby, and as someone who likes socializing, i dont think i would still be cubing if it wasnt for competitions. but i guess that depends on the person entirely.

COLL is solving just the corners if all the edges are permuted, right..? that's my understanding of it...so it is included in ZBLL algs because in some ZBLL cases all the edges are permuted and therefore it's a COLL

right?

Sorry, I misunderstood your previous post. Yes, you are obviously correct...sorry!

I just recently started learning ZZ so I have lots to catch up on...

Robert, I'm out right now, when I get home I'll neatly post my algs for those (on mobile at the moment haha). And BTW guys , after I learned PLL, I learned COLL which helped a lot because I used the same algs in zbll !

In learning ZZ, my times have gone up to 45 - 60s. Is this normal?

no. I average 8.7 or so. Never practiced ZZ in my life. Just did this ZZ average of 5 spur of the moment.

avg of 5: 24.69

Time List:
1. 28.50 D B2 U' L2 U' L2 D B2 U' L2 U' B' R' D L' D' L2 F' L U L'
2. (18.81+) R2 B2 D2 R' D L' U2 F' D' R' D' L2 D' F2 D2 F2 R2 U' B2 R2 U2
3. (31.20) U2 B' F2 U2 L2 F U2 L2 U2 F2 R2 D L' U B' F' D' B2 L2 R' F2
4. 22.67 B2 D' R2 B2 U' F2 L2 U' F2 L2 U R' B' F' R D' B' D2 F L F
5. 22.89+ R2 L2 U R F2 R F2 D' B' D2 L' F2 B2 R D2 L' B2 R L2 F2

idk what to tell you...but this seems weird.

No haha. I was explaining the reason for skepticism that I think everyone reading this thread has. I'm not jealous of people faster than me, they just motivate me even more haha.

Thanks !! :) I knew I was pretty fast, I never knew I was that fast though :p
