Hi everybody, just joined the forum so i thought I'd give myself a quick introduction...

I'm 19 (almost 20) and I've been cubing for about 7 months. Initially I bought the Rubik's cube at some store on complete impulse and decided to would be a cool thing to learn and show off, a little:rolleyes:. So I watched some YouTube video's and learned the LBL beginners method.

I only really discovered the speedsolving world the last couple months so I really consider myself quite a newbie. I'm currently Sub-1min (slow I know:() but I am trying to fix this i have gotten sub-50 on some lucky scrambles, quick time being 43.29 seconds:D.

My current cube is Dayan Zhanchi, I bought this just thinking the cube looked cool since my last cube went missing after I forgot it at work :'( however after doing some research apparently I may have bought my Zhanchi too soon in to my cubing life... hmm?

I generally cube as a hobby as I am very busy with studies so I don't really have set times to practice.. I sort of just practice on the go, I really enjoy it and it is definitely one of my favourite past times and I'm definitely looking to get faster!!

Hiya

There's a huge UK speedcubing community on here, check out UKCA as well! Where abouts are you based?
That's awesome to hear, i've only come across one cuber since i've gotten in to cubing.. i'm in the East of England, Bedfordshire county, where from are you based?

welcome!

where about are you from?

Hi. I'm not English, but in answer to your question about buying a zhanchi too early.. No such thing. You should buy it whenever you feel like it. Stiff cubes improving your turning, in my opinion, is a myth. You should get used to the cube that you are going to use in the long run.

Welcome! Perfectly fine to buy a Zhanchi. And yes, you should consider learning a speedcubing method. Most popular right now are CFOP (aka Fridrich), Roux, and ZZ. Some people still use Petrus. CFOP is most like LBL so it would be easiest for you to transition to and also there is a wealth of information on it because most people still use it. I would also recommend trying out Roux because it's interesting.

Welcome. See you at a comp or meet in the near future probably.
Yes most definitely I think I may have missed the last comp in the UK.. i think it was in Leicester... kind of annoying cause it's only an hours train ride away from me and doesn't cost very much.. wish i knew of it sooner!!

Thank you, I personally love my zhanchi and i've become quite accustomed to it.. what cube do you prefer?

Welcome to the forums! I have no doubt you will get a lot faster
thanks, i really hope i do, i'm starting to look in to CFOP method!

Hi, thank you that's great to know.. i was afraid i may have hindered my progress some how since i've had my zhanchi for a few weeks now, and that in itself has knocked 20+ seconds of my time and improved my fingertricks greatly... and yes i've started learning the CFOP method, i've got the F2L down intuitively although, as i go along i may have to look up some algs as i tend to use B moves a lot.. and i feel comfortable with it.. but it doesn't feel optimal.. i've been researching the roux method and yes it does seem very interesting, i plan to delve deeper in to it after i get a good grip on CFOP
