Hi, my name is Jodi but family and close friends call me Dojers. I first got into cubing about '82 or '83 (can't remember - old age sucks LOL) and that lasted for a couple of weeks then I fell out of it.

Recently, I became disabled and due to meds and nerve damage I am slowly losing my ability to focus and remember things and one day I saw a Rubik's Cube in the store and decided to get it (not thinking about the brain help it'd end up giving me). Now I have a regular Rubik's Cube, Dayan 5 ZhanChi 3x3x3 Speed Cube, a LanLan stickered 4x4 speed cube, a Shengshou 5x5x5 6.5cm V III Speed Cube Puzzle, plus I'm currently waiting on a Shengshou V3 Aurora ( Jiguang ) 3x3x3 Speed Cube Puzzle. Shoulda paid attention where it was coming from cuz the earliest I can expect it is Nov 13!!! Yeah, I've only been doing this about a month and I've already gone nuts on buying cubes. I have to admit tho - that Dayan ZhanChi (how do you pronounce that? Zan Chee or Zahn Chee or Chi? Just curious - hate sounding like a noob even tho I am one!!) is a sweet cube to play with. I have my time down between 2 to 4 minutes depending on how often I screw it up tho I did have 2 right in a row where I did 49 seconds and 50 seconds but that was just a lucky cube scramble! I wish I was always that fast. But with the nerve damage, my hands tremble which makes it hard to hold the cube. I'm trying the finger tricks hoping that helps with rehab as well. Who knows? Maybe I will get under a minute consistently tho I'd be happy with a steady 2 mins (not that I won't keep trying!)

On to other things - married - got 2 sons and 6 grandkids ranging from 13 yo down to 1 week old. I also have a dog named Ginger - she's (and I'm not sure about the "profanity" thing here so I'm going to spell it out with spaces) a C O C K A P O O which, if you can't tell, is a mix of a c o c ker and a poodle.

Otherwise - that's about it. I'm currently trying to learn the Fridrich method after completing a couple of different beginner methods that I mostly combined for my own use but I want to KNOW why I'm doing what I'm doing and not just doing algorithms so I figured Fridrich seemed to be the best method for a noob to start with.

Looking forward to seeing what I can learn here!

Awesome first post! Welcome to the forum!

I think that the "zh" in chinese is somewhere between a "z" and a "j".

"Chi" is pronounced sort of like "Chuh".

Most people just say "ZanChee", so you're fine pronouncing it like that.

Welcome to the community! I think you are the oldest girl cuber on the forum! (Sorry sneaklyfox!)

Also, Zhanchi would be Jan Chuh. You say "uh" but very very short. Janchuh.

profanity is not allowed, but if you try to give proper nouns or names it might not matter as much as putting in what rooster says.

You're as old as my mom, and I am only 14 :P
Welcome to the forum, it is nice to have older people being a part of the community!
Wow - you're just a year older than my oldest grandson LOL Now I'm REALLY feeling old :) Thanks for the welcome

Welcome! Wow, a grandma, huh? That's not something you see everyday. Funny, but you don't talk like what I would expect from a 51 yo grandma, internet slang and stuff...

Not sure how old you are but I've been on the 'net probably longer than you've been alive :) My first computer was a C-64 and I learned programming on it then I moved to an 8088 and then an 8086 and was building my own computers up until the 386 when it became cheaper just to buy one. My first modem was a 300 baud (if you even know what that is) and I was totally geeked when I "graduated" to a 14.4 :) Oh and my 300 baud was one like the one in War Games where you had to put the receiver on top as soon as you heard the connection tones. You knew you were a geek when you could recognize the speed of the modem you were connecting to just by the sound it made.

Kewl - thanks :)

If you want to know how it's done in real Chinese (not the English version) see here.

Nice - I've seen quite a few of his videos but never saw that one. Thanks! That helps. I love languages - I can speak a little bit of a number of them - used to be proficient in German but that was too many years ago although I understand some of it still.

Very cool! Where in PA are you, if you don't mind?
Plenty of competitions here in the northeast USA!

Northwest - small place called Bradford - South of Buffalo, NY and east of Erie, PA - just about in the middle of the two - be an almost perfect triangle if you drew a line from here to one of those and then to the other then back :)

Welcome Jodi, this is a fun place to hang out. I started reading this forum last year May. never stopped reading and improved my times from one minute-thirty to sub 30. ;)

Niiiiiiice - thanks for the welcome. :)

Welcome to the forums! Great to have another older person on board. There are a few of us...

Didn't figure there'd be very many but thought if the "youngsters" can stand having an "old fart" hanging around, I'd stick around and see what I could learn :D

You mean I beat out another female? One that is as old as me? Sweeeet - nice to know that other girls play with this funny little twisty toy with little stickers on it :) Oh, and I don't swear but I wasn't sure what the board would do with the breed of dog that I have so it's better to be safe than sorry. And thank you on the pronunciation - I know Chinese and Japanese is different. I learned a little bit of Chinese because I wanted to talk to the people who run the Chinese buffet here in town and the way it looks (in English letters) is NOT how I would expect it to sound.

I already knew I was not the oldest girl cuber on the forum. You forgot crazycubemom (Maria Oey). But I think I probably still have the most kids. :p

You definitely have me beat there but what about grandkids???? LOL

Also looks as tho it's time to get my avatar and my profile up to date.........*sigh* I hate having my picture taken LOL But that's ok - I'll live (hopefully I won't break your screens :D )
